This piece of writing and the process from draft to the final piece shows me a lot about Akshaj as a writer. This student is a very strong writer and knows the principles it takes to write a story. In his draft he has first, second, and last to know it occurs in chronology. He also has great writing stamina since he wrote his final draft all in one sitting and has little spelling errors. This draft taught me that he had great proficiency in his second language writing development since he writes so well in English. These drafts show that Ayowba has many strengths as a writer. She is great at getting all her thoughts onto paper with proper syntax and spelling. She could use more work on elaborating her ideas but overall her writing is very strong and well thought out. Her drafts are always written in cursive which may be because it looks close to her first language of Tamil and the way her parents writing looks when they write in their home language. It was about his favorite movie which was Night at the Museum and when I told him he could write it in Spanish he got so excited and just kept writing. But as you can see in his narrative I could only get two sentences out of him in English. I saw from these two that he is definitely more comfortable writing in his home language which is usual and he has a lot of oral language skills in Spanish since he could read the passage so fluent to the teacher and myself. But when we would ask him to describe the weather of his narrative in English he had some difficulties, we needed the translator. He is also really good at transferring some of the rules he knows in Spanish to English like sentence structure and did a little code-switching which is perfectly fine. Akshaj is still at the late within word patterns stage based off the assessment that was given. He did have some levels of growth though within this stage. He spelled the word thorn correctly the second time along with the words growl and third. This post test, he only had one mistake in the other vowels section and one mistake in the inflected endings section while his first time he had two mistakes in each of those columns. He was just making up any that he saw, like lion because of the -ion in the first boggle.
