SCA(Student Conservation Association)

Who founded this organization? The Student Conservation Association was founded in 1957 by Elizabeth Putnam at the age of 24, who in 2010 won the second highest civilians award. The SCA was co-founded by Martha Talbot.

Who runs/works for this organization? The organization is ran by an executive team of leading experts in the fields of conservation, partnership development, philanthropy, marketing, and corporate relations. The group of 152 executive team members mentor student activists from the age of 15 to young adults to become more aware of the seizing issues of our environment.

What is the SCA's objective? The SCA's objective is to protect, enhance, renew, and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and urban green spaces in the USA. They solely focus on "creating future stewards of our land, a healthier environment and-ultimately-a better world".

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective?

In 2013 alone the SCA has achieved:

1.5 million service hours throughout the 50 states

planting about 800 acres of vegetation

maintaining 10 million feet of trails

monitoring over 1 million fish and other animals

and completed nearly 25 500 water quality surveys

Are the strategies of the organization working? I believe for what the organizations visions are, they are doing really well. The idea that one person could start something with so much success is really amazing. By looking at the achievements in the past year alone, it is outstanding for only having 152 paid staff. People seem thrilled to volunteer their time to the organization, which is a whole other way to measure success. If they could do one thing differently, I would advertise what they are thriving to do, because up to the point of researching this topic, I had not heard about it before.

How is this organization funded? Funding comes from online donations, and also generous business and private donations. You can also purchases products on the SCA online store, I would assume most proceeds go to helping the organization grow.

How can you get involved? There are many fabulous ways to get involved in the SCA. By following them on Twitter or Facebook you will be updated with upcoming service events near you, that are available to take part in. You may also register online to become an official employee of the SCA, and help plan and host events. Also if you feel obliged, you can always donate money for the cause.

To get in touch with the SCA you can visit their website at www.thesca.org or you may call the head office in CA at 510-832-1966. Their mailing address is 1230 Preservation Parkway, Oakland, CA 94612.

Who founded this organization? The WWF began in April 1961 to grow an organization to protect the earth and also to raise money for other organizations who had the brains but not the money to execute their projects. Sir Julian Huxley was the major scientists that started the organization and its first president was Prince Bernhard of Netherlands.

Who runs/works for this organization? There are hundreds of people working for the WWF in many different countries across the globe. The current president and C.E.O is Carter Roberts, and Marcia Marsh who is the C.O.O are the head of an eleven person executive team who lead hundreds of councilman and directors. The WWF also empowers many people like you and me across the world to take action.

What is the WWF's objective? The WWF fights to secure a future for all animals on the planet. They protect extraordinary ecosystems and habitats with diverse and unique life.

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective?

Their are endless missions around the globe that the WWF have completed:

Helped stop deforestation in tropical jungles

With Coca-Cola, they are protecting endangered polar bears

Help food retailers find safe food from properly certified fisheries

Have expanded marine protection areas

Brought back the Amur tiger and the Black tiger of Africa

They have many experts that find the most immediate dangers to our world and how to solve them

Is this organization working? Absolutely, the website has countless amounts of evidence of them doing nothing but being the earth's shield and protecting it from all the dangers. They have obviously picked immediate and long term dangers very well and executed their projects with success.

How is this organization funded? The main money flow for the WWF is through donations and fundraising, from this alone the organization got over $90,000,000 last year. Another $100,000,000 came from government grants, private contracts, and revenue from places like their online store or amazon.ca.

How can you get involved? People can take action to protect our world through the World Wildlife Foundation in many different ways. Something simple like signing up for the weekly newsletter email to spread the word and keep updated with what the WWF are doing is very easy. People can also donate to specific causes, sign up as a member to donate on a monthly basis, shop, do fundraisers, or participate in peaceful protests or sign petitions.

To get in touch you can call 1-800-26-PANDA for general inquires, email their Canadian office at ca-panda@wwfcanada.org or send them a letter to their Toronto head office to: 245 Eglinton Ave. East, Toronto, ON M4P 3J1. Their are also offices in Halifax, Inuvik, Iqaluit, Montreal, Ottawa, Prince Rupert, St. Johns and Vancouver if you wish to call a local number or visit their office location.

Who founded this organization? Keegan Teetaert (6' 3") and Tyler Rey (5' 1") founded this organization on November 27, 2013. We are both grade ten ELA students at the SRSS.

Who runs/works for our organization? Besides the founders Tyler and Keegan, EcoTec is run by student volunteers out of the Manitoba universities as part of a think green class in industrial design, power mechanics and artistic majors. They work on projects to create and enhance the future by making better, safer, and more environmentally friendly technologies.

What is the organizations objective/mission? EcoTec's mission is to think up, design, produce, and sell eco-friendly products to the public for a reasonable price. We strive to make the global marketplace more environmentally educated and aware.

What strategies/programs/projects are we using to meet this objective? Currently EcoTec is working towards getting more universities across Canada to be involved in its program. In the year 2014 EcoTec will strive to have universities from all over the west coast to take part in the race to find a renewable source of energy. Also in the next year, the release of the EcoCar will be posted for the available purchase to the public. It will be the first fully electric affordable family vehicle made in Canada.

How is EcoTec funded? EcoTec is mostly privately funded by an anonymous billionaire, but if you would like to donate you may pledge online at EcoTec.com, or mail in a donation.

How can you get involved? You can participate with EcoTec if you are in an industrial design, power mechanic, or an artistic/creative university major at one of their partnered universities. We also require additional help for the bigger events. We do have hired staff members from across Canada you can get in touch with if you interested in starting a career with EcoTec, but be sure to meet all of the qualifications (Full list of qualifications can be found on our website).

To get in touch you can call our head office in Winnipeg, MB at 1-888-1-ECOTEC (326832) for general information.
