Throughout this course, we have focused much of the content on the concept and importance of caring. I have learned a lot from the modules each week but also from other classmates' ideas in the discussion posts. I've come to conclude that caring is an innate experience that can be nurtured and flourish in a person's everyday life. To care for others, one must care for themselves. Caring can be expressed in many different ways and it can occur indirectly or passively. A few examples that demonstrate caring are listening to someone's concerns, showing compassion towards others, never judging, and being empathetic.

The concept of nonviolence focuses on resolving conflict peacefully and maintaining positive relationships throughout the community and within families. We see of examples of nonviolence most prominently in political conflict through peaceful protests, sit-ins, and marches. The concept of human dignity by Donna Hicks stuck out to me the most during the lessons on nonviolence, I always understood what dignity was but would never have been able to put a definition with it. Maintaining the dignity of others during conflict is what makes nonviolence successful.

The biggest takeaway from this course has been that caring for yourself and others develops positive relationships that can grow and impact the lives of others. As for nonviolence, remaining morally and ethically sound throughout the conflict and not resorting to anger and violence has a higher chance of resulting in desired outcomes for both parties.

Jean Watson stands out to me because of how describes the importance of caring, especially in nursing. According to Watson caring has to include the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of a person. The 10 Caritas also demonstrate important truths that can guide people on how they can live their lives.

"Occurs when the one caring connects with and embraces the spirit of the other through authentic, full attention in them here and now, and conveys a concern for the inner life and personal meaning of another" (Watson, 2012, p. 17)

My personal experience with caring demonstrates the belief that when people are nurtured and shown what being cared for they are taught how to do this for others. My mom has always shown me what it means to provide and care for those in your life, it has impacted me to want to do that for others whether it be my family and friends or people I don't know.
