Com tam, also known as broken rice, is a popular Vietnamese dish featuring cooked rice made from broken grains. It is typically served with grilled pork rib, steamed pork or pork belly, and Vietnamese-style steamed omelet with meatloaf (cha trung), a tangy sweet sauce, and various accompaniments. It usually comes with a sweet, sour, and refreshing soup called Canh chua to balance the taste. With its unique flavor and texture, it's a beloved dish in the South.

How is it made?

It started in the south of Vietnam, especially in Ho Chi Minh City. A long time ago, broken rice was seen as "lesser" because it was made from rice grains that broke during harvesting. Poor people used to eat it, but over time, it became super popular. It became famous in the 20th century as street food, Nowadays, it's loved by many for its mix of grilled pork, fish sauce, pickled vegetables, and sometimes a fried egg or meatloaf. Canh chua, a sour soup, is often served with it to balance the flavors.

Now, it is a favorite meal for everyone in Vietnam and can be found at restaurants or food stalls!

For dinner, I went to Lotte to have Pizza 4ps after a long basketball training . I was really craving pizza, but still wants something that is clean and healthy at first, so i ordered a mixed salad, and sauce it with honey. it has soft burrata cheese, salty parma ham, and sweet tropical fruits like mango and watermelon. the mix of creamy, salty, and fruity flavors goes well together. it’s fresh and perfect for a light meal.

After the salad, i ordered a half&half pizza, it was 4-mushrooms flavored and 5-cheese flavored. The 4-musrooms side had a deep, savory, and rich flavor without being too heavy. The 5-cheese side was perfect, the 5 types of cheese were perfectly balanced. It all melted together and create a gooey, satisfying bite. It was exactly what i needed after a long day.

After finishing the pizza, i ended up with a cup of fresh iced coconut juice, it was cold and a little sweet, very refreshing after all the cheesy, savory food. it helped cool me down and ended the meal on a light way.

Overall, the meal was the perfect mix of tasty and fresh.

The salad was light and flavorful, while the half&half pizza was rich and comforting. the iced coconut juice was super refreshing and a great way to finish the meal, leaving me feeling satisfied.

Food that i really liked during the holidays

During the holidays, I had Com Tam that i ordered from Shop, and it was honestly the best meal i have consumed in those 5 days. It’s a Vietnamese dish with broken rice, grilled pork, a fried egg, and pickled vegetables. What made it so addictive was the flavor combination. The grilled pork was sweet and smoky, the rice was soft and plain, and the fish sauce was tangy and slightly sweet. The egg yolk added a rich, creamy taste, and the pickled cabbage was sour and crunchy. It balanced the taste. All the flavors mixed perfectly. Sweet, salty, sour, and a bit spicy too.

What made the meal even better was canh chua, a sour soup that came on the side. It had a light, tangy flavor with pineapple, tomatoes, bean sprouts and herbs. The sour taste of the soup balanced the sweetness of the pork well. It also had veggies and sometimes shrimp, which made it super refreshing.

Every bite was different but delicious. I really enjoyed it and I would love to have it again.
