The relatively new professional theatres provided the conceit of play-acting, which foregrounds what Bate calls 'the performative' aspects of human experience. It is a conceit, or extended metaphor, often used in Shakespeare's 'theatre poetry' - after all, is not natural that he would reach for material closest to him? </div>]]></description>
