"The book of Ecclesiastes was Tateh's favorite. 'I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time for every purpose and every work" (61).

I think this part is important because Ruth quotes a line from her father's favorite section of the Old Testament that he would make she and her brother recite lines from. It seems ironic that her father preached 'God shall judge the...wicked' as if he had no awareness of his own wicked deeds (sexually abusing his own daughter).

Stay out."
(63)
I think this part is important because this is a good example on how their family wasn't close. They didn't really seem to see each others effort into looking for each other nor there's no communication or love between Ruth and the family. Everyone seemed to be so distant.

" he'd make Sam sit in the corner for hours and read hebrew , he never showed any love towards his son" (61).

I think this is a important part to actually sit there and think about because most of this story is talking about how there family wasn't always so close and barley loved each other so to read these two sentences really opens my eyes more to this story helping see that not everyone was treated the same or loved as equally.

You've been out, Stay out.' And she hung up on me, so there was nothing I could do for Sam but pray for him" Pg.63

I chose this one because the way her aunt spoke to her was just rude, I get that she was hurt and broken that Sam died but she shouldn't have spoken to her like that, but beside that, the way things ended between them, she didn't get to say goodbye or that she loved him and that's painful. She never saw him again didn't hear from him either and then poof he was gone.

Pg. #62
This passage is important to the book because it shows how Sam was treated. This passage reveals a lot about Sam and his family. It shows that Sam was never treated with much love. His father and him didn't have a very good relationship like other kids now and days do with their fathers. They never connected, communicated , or even showed any good emotions towards one another. This quote reveals how Sam and his father weren't close, and how strictly he was treated.

"So many of those roads dead-ended into the woods. That's how life works downy there a dead end... What always struck me about black folks was every Sunday morning , They'd get dressed up so clean for church I wouldn't even recognize them. I liked that. (pg.61) To me this quote makes me think about purpose in life. The blacks were seen as a nobody like if they had no future ahead of them to others. Roads to success is a term often used but seeing as they used 'dead ending roads'' They are saying that the blacks had no road to follow .. Pointless . One thing did actually give them hope that they were just like everyone else and that was church on Sunday morning.
