The piano has been a huge part of my life that has made me the person I am today. Music has allowed me to explore so many areas of beauty and skill I never thought I could have. 5 years ago, I picked up a cello and fell in love. I dedicate time every day to practice and it seems I am always preparing for a recital or orchestral performance. This summer, I challenged myself to learn the trumpet, and I will be playing in the school band this next year. I can't imagine my life without music. We spend countless hours on our bikes, flying through mountain trails. I love the simplistic beauty of nature and I enjoy being in it. My family tries to go on a hike or kayaking on a lake every Sunday when the weather is nice. Being active outside is a reason why my family is so close. They're goofy and lovely, and I learn from them every day. I know I would be a very different person without my family. My family loves to travel and try new things. I remember reading my mom's college biology and anatomy text books as kid and being so fascinated by them. My family celebrates Christmas with the Dutch on December 5th, and we follow traditions that my Oma grew up with. One of my favorite Dutch foods is boterkoek, my Oma makes it all the time.
