This shows Montag's thinking before meeting Clarisse. Montag really can't be thinking about nothing because if your thinking you have to be thinking of something. This almost makes me wonder if he can't think of anything to think about or he doesn't know of anything new to think about

How do you sleep but not sleep or live but not really live?

I feel like this foreshadows that someone knows about the hidden books.

The fireman enjoy watching suffering and death as their entertainment and not only that but they also like to watch the weak and helpless die.

This sentence makes me think that Montag has so many things racing in his mind that he is hearing things and is trying to put thoughts together.

This is after Clarries asks if Montag is happy which after being asked this he realizes he is not as shown in the quote above.

"great bees...sleeping the evil out of itself." Pg.22

"Hound leaping out like a moth...finding its victim...inserting its needle and going back to its kennel to die as if a switch has been turned." Pg. 23

Aren't the hounds supposed to make the firemen's job easier? Why does Montag not like them?

I took this quote as he is trying so hard and trying to collect all of the sand yet he can't quite hold it all in.

What is the importance of this metaphor? Is it foreshadowing?

I'm not sure why I think this but "And at the museums, have you ever been? All abstract. That's all there is now. My uncle says it was different once. A long time back sometimes pictures said things or even showed people."- Clarrisse "Your uncle said, your uncle said, Your uncle must be a remarkable man."-Montag "He is. He certainly is."- Clarisse

• This is Montag thinking to himself all the firemen look the same.

" It was a pleasure to burn. It was special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed." Pg. 1

• This is when Montag finally realizes that they only burn at night to entertain the public.

This shows that it wasn't the police chasing him it was the kids! The kids chased him and tried to kill him for fun.

This Syntax really emphasizes the short attention span of the society and how little time you have before the next big thing, and the next thing, and the next.

Is then Snap shot going to come back later in the book and have significance?

This also shows Just how quick society is ready to move on to the next thing.

I thought this was an interesting take and helped me understand the reasoning that the people would use to burn the books. Originally I just thought society did it to hide knowledge which isn't proven false yet this makes sense as to why the people haven't revolted as a whole.

This also makes me really think and makes me begin to ask questions about Beatty's character, as in why he knows so many titles to books and why they might offend one's race.

This shows Montag read books.

Montag is reckless by showing the women his books causing him. He then reads them this poem.

This poem shows how good turns into bad and how the society is said to be this big happy dream land when really there is war and it's just brain rot."

Looking at the words written on page 97 you would think that the women are crying because of how sad the poem was when really Mrs. Phelps is sobbing because she doesn't understand the poem that was written.

This shows Montag's position. Beatty is implying that Montag acts like he knows it all when he really only knows a little causing him to have ignorance and be a fool.

This is the snapshot ending to the chase chase because they don't actually catch Montag they catch an innocent man just so the people don't get bored.

Montag instead of find the beauty of fire uses it to kill and solve his problems

"When did we meet? And where?" - Montag Pg. 40

This is Montag asking Millie (his wife) where they met for the first time. She sadly can't remember and neither can he. This really pulled on my heartstrings because if I couldn't remember where I met my husband I would cry, and cry, and cry. This also shows how brain rot they have become because of the lifestyle society has provided and considered normal.
