Oppression and Liberation 3rd by Amy Fritsch

Explain an aspect of how Friere says the goal that: "This, then, is the great humanistic and historical task of the op-
pressed: to liberate themselves and their oppressors as well" must or may be achieved--by whom, through what process, with what in mind, etc.

The inherent implied relationship between the oppressed and marginalized is power imbalance: one is dominated while the other is the dominate. However, further analysis describes that the oppressor is also stuck in a cycle. Their way of life is stuck on their implied superiority: therefore they have no way of abandoning that principle. So for liberty to truly prosper, both the oppressors and the oppressed have to be freed from a mindsets that alienated the opposite side of the spectrum.

The oppressed must liberate themselves and the oppressors because that is the only way to essentially end oppression as a whole. The oppression must be acknowledge by both sides and they must both collectively make changes. Essentially the oppressed want to stop being dehumanized and the oppressors need to stop dehumanizing others.

The author perhaps is saying the processing and thinking the oppressor goes through must be changed for there to be true liberation.
~ Ana Gabriela Escobar

Friere says that in order for the oppressed to liberate themselves from their oppressors, they must be able to break free from the "generosity/charity" of the oppressors. Therefore, they need to be able to at first accept some generosity from the oppressors and then ultimately use that to function by themselves, which means that they then break free from the dependence of the oppressor.
