Establishment date of the city, the first information about which was found in the 5th century BC when the famous historian Herodotus has lived, is not known for certain. 
    Aigai, which had had a small castle-town identity until the beginning of the 3rd century B.C., has developed during the Hellenistic Period and had public structures which are indispensable for a Hellenistic city. The most important structures of the city that are worth seeing are the 3-floored Agora and Public Assembly Building . 
    Aigai has needed rainwater during its life time, and all streets and alleys were paved, and the sublayers of stone pavements were furnished with a sewer system which led rainwater to hundreds of reservoirs of various sizes. Flat areas are formed with high terrace walls at the hills of the city looking to the West and the South, and public structures such as the Theater, Gymnasium, Baths and the Stadium were built on these flat areas.
    Some parts of the walls surrounding the city are standing still today. It is the 18th century Turkish house on Hungarian street. Also known as the Hungarian house. Lajos Kossuth (1802-1894), one of the leaders of the Hungarian War of independence, was hosted in this house between 1850-1851 with his family and 56 refugees and prepared the Hungarian constitution draft in this house. The wooden house with two floors and 7 rooms in the garden was restored by the Ministry of Culture and opened to visitors on September 19, 1982 as a museum in memory of Lajos Kossuth.
