         <description><![CDATA[<p>Students in my classroom go through behavior changes and that indicates to me that there may be something new I need to assess.  I take note of significant changes from their norm. This includes changes in their social interactions, routines, attention span, completion of assignments, and following school/classroom rules. This is the first indication my students may be struggling with something we have yet to include on their IEP. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Begin by collecting behavior data on general data sheet that gathers the time, frequency and severity of the behaviors in question. This helps me to find patterns. For example, the behaviors may be occurring more often during a certain instruction block. </p>]]></description>

If student has a language impairment the SLP is invited. If student has a BIP the behavioral team attends. If the student has a suspected new disability, most commonly this is Intellectual Disability, then the Psychologist is invited to attend the meeting as well. </p>]]></description>

At this point, if I have ruled out behavior or language as the reason for the change in the student, I need to access whether or not they are making progress toward their IEP goals and interventions. I compile the data I have collect thus far and look for the bigger picture or trends. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>If the student has a new identified disability that can be accommodated in my program, a new IEP needs to be written. I write this IEP to include the necessary accommodations, program modifications and supplementary aids they need to access the curriculum in my classroom. The parent receives a copy of the new IEP 5 days before a final meeting is scheduled. At the meeting the team reviews the new IEP and I immediately begin to implement it in my classroom for the student. </p>]]></description>
