Prompt #2: Romeo and Juliet has withstood the test of time and is taught all across the world. How and why is this play and its messages still relevant today? by Joyanna Forsythe

Be sure to give a clear reason and then follow up with a quote in support. Please give the page number from the play, too.

One reason that I think this play still matters today is because it looks at teens making impulsive decisions. The frontal lobe (the decision making part of your brain) is not fully developed until your mid-20s and that is obvious in both Romeo and Juliet's decision making: "I'll to the Friar to know his remedy. If all else fail, myself have power to die" (206).

Even till the end, Romeo and Juliet were able to still love each other despite the struggle they've been through along with thei parents' disapproval. Today, people still love each other (platonically too) even when things are tough because love can sometimes be the one thing that keeps us going.

In the prologue, Shakespeare tells us that the only thing that will end the feud is their love and deaths: "Doth with their death bury their parents' strife" (page 2).

Romeo and Juliet were still minors. If they were adults, (or considered adults back then) they could have the choice to move out and not be tied down by their families. Today, some people need to wait until they are adults/financially independent to inform family of something that may not approve, such as religion/sexuality/gender/politics/partners.
