Over the past few weeks, I have been learning about curriculum design and development and applying these learned concepts to a Technology Professional Development Curriculum (TPDC), which was written using concepts of my educational philosophy. Click here to view the TPDC.

Aspects of my educational philosophy are very present in my TPDC. For example, my educational philosophy is rooted in progressivism and pragmatism, which focus on the whole child and promote practical learning. Although this TPDC is designed for an adult audience of educators, it is still a very learner-centered curriculum plan, where participants are able to be active learners by working collaboratively, incorporating their own interests, creating their own software/assessments, etc. Furthermore, TPDC participants are being provided valuable and practical lessons regarding technology that are then being implemented in their actual classrooms. This makes the overall learning experience that much more relevant, which promotes participants' engagement and understanding.

Based on the content learned and experiences shared throughout this EDEL 536 course, my educational philosophy has remained consistent. From the very beginning, one of the main concepts presented in this course was the idea that curriculum is complex. It is a continuous process and depends on its context. My educational philosophy focuses on the whole child, their interests, practical/relatable content, valuable lessons, etc. Since every child is different and there is never a class that is the same, this dynamic fits perfectly with the complex idea of curriculum -- it's ever-changing and multifaceted, just like a classroom! I think it's important for educators to have a philosophy that is student-centered because that will influence their curriculum. Education is not a one-size-fits-all domain, nor is curriculum. In order to design and implement a curriculum that meets students' diverse needs, educators should be focused on the whole child, which is exactly what my educational philosophy represents.
