A lot of french influenced architecture in St. Louis was built in the Second Empire style, which was really popular at the time during the mid to late nineteenth century. This buildings most distinctive feature is the Mansard roof, where a low pitched roof terminates in a broad, sweeping, almost vertical roof often punctuated with dormers. Large, elongated windows with curved tops also appear in this style

I was just in my hometown last week in St. Louis, Missouri and have always sort of "noticed" the cool architecture in and around the city but never fully appreciated it until taking this class. I noticed much more now in my 30's than I ever did or could fully appreciate in my teens and early 20's. There is a ton of really beautiful French influenced architecture in the city, especially near Lafayette Square. The city is named after a french saint, after all! I also included a couple of Spanish influenced architecture from both St. Louis and Parker, CO (near where I live now).
