The knowledge wasn't used well to support the points. There are no real evaluation of sources, and the conclusion is not strongly supported and is conflicting.

The topic and the research question are clearly stated, appropriate to the subject, and the discussion in the essay is connected to the research question. The reasons why the candidate has chosen to investigate this topic are not explained. An appropriate range of relevant sources have been applied in relation to the research question but there is no evidence of an informed selection of sources or methods.

The methodology and selection of sources are good. Because of the unsystematic research question (no text originally written in English) the mark is capped at a maximum of 4. This is a pity because overall the essay could have achieved a higher mark.

The copycat effect: An analysis of suicides emulated from non-fictional and fictional media 3/6

The research topic is not well defined with regard to the fictional versus nonfictional cases of suicide. It is only very late in the paper that this is clarified, but even then only to some extent. The research question should be more clearly stated. Sources are academic, but also rather dated, lacking "an appropriate range". The essay is for the most part focused on the question.

To what extent does childhood abuse affect the development of children in terms of depression and substance abuse? 5/6

The research question is stated but the wording needed more attention. At first glance it appears that there are two variables being investigated: substance abuse and depression; however, the link between the two is explained in the introduction. The topic is communicated and clear, but the methodology of the essay is not outlined, and the focus of the essay is not consistently on both depression and substance abuse. The selection of sources is good, although there are also several non-academic sources.

To what extent does bilingualism delay the onset of dementia? 5/6

The question is focused and clearly stated. The topic is explained, and the essay is focused on the research question. The sources are satisfactory; several non-academic sources are included; some sources that are cited are not listed in the references.

To what extent is placebo treatment as effective as anti-depressants in the treatment of depression? 5/6

The research question is clearly stated and explained in the introduction. The essay is focused on the question, but the extensive background information (e.g., symptoms of depression) is not always highly relevant and could have been reduced to focus more on critical thinking. The relevance of the topic is explained in the introduction and the methodology is clearly outlined. A good range of sources; several sources are from non-academic sites (e.g., MedicineNet, Mayo Clinic, textbooks) or are not directly linked to the question.

To what extent do social networking sites (SNS) usage lead to experience of anxiety in adolescents? 6/6

The topic is well explained in the introduction and the final paragraph of the introduction clearly outlines the methodology of the essay. The research question is clearly stated, and the term “experience of anxiety” is operationalized and justified in the introduction. The essay is consistently focused on the question. There is a wide range of sources in the references and these are directly relevant to the question.
