It is a pleasure to be here today, even though this is a big challenge for me because I am not fluent in English. However, I see this as an opportunity to improve and grow.

I am 50 years old and from Franco da Rocha, a city in São Paulo, Brazil. I work in the legal department of the local government, specifically in Tax Enforcement, where I contribute to ensuring the proper functioning of public administration.

Currently, I am pursuing my Law degree at USP, which is my first course at this prestigious university. I am very proud of this achievement and plan to continue my studies to expand my knowledge and improve my career.

I wanted to make a video to introduce myself, but I confess that I still feel quite insecure and nervous to speak in English. I hope this written message is okay.

My name is Milena, I’m 25 years old (almost 26, actually), and I’m studying for a degree in Portuguese and Literature at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

My interest in Media Education began a few years ago when I started researching, in my scientific initiation, about the phenomenon of disinformation. At first, my main interest was to understand the strategies to combat disinformation, focusing in Science Communication, but, as I read, I also became interested in the impact of the absence of media literacy in various sectors of society, including democracy itself.

In 2023, as I began my teaching practice within schools, I was able to observe the impact of digital media and particularly of artificial intelligence not only on student learning, but also in their cognitive development. Through this experience, I understand that Media and Information Literacy is crucial not only for students but also for educators, who need to be prepared to use technologies effectively and critically in the classroom. Since then, I tried to understand not only the phenomenon of disinformation and its combat strategies, but also the impacts of the absence of media literacy in school context.

I’m very excited and also very grateful to be part of this course. I believe that the discussions will greatly enrich my academic research and, above all, my teaching practice, mainly due the fact that I have such a rich and diverse group of speakers and course colleagues.

In addition to that, I think I can say that I’m a very sensitive, overly tearful and reflective person, I love music and I dare to say that my favorite author nowadays is Clarice Lispector.

Hello, my name is Bruna Brito Bastos, I’m 27 years old and I’m from Brazil, from the state of Amapá, in the northern region.

Now I’m studying for my PhD in Public Policies and I’m receiving a scholarship, so I mostly spend my days balancing my studies and other interests.

I love to read books and graphic novels about various themes, especially about people with lives completely different than mine. My favorite color is blue and currently my favorite food is lasagna.

I also like to watch Brazilian Comedies and Asian Dramas (mainly from China, Japan, Thailand, Philippines and Korea), I also to listen to indie music from all over the world.

I’m a journalist and entrepreneur specializing in Healthcare, IT, and Business.

I am 43 years old, and I am from Brazil. I am currently a student in Education at the University of São Paulo, and my research focuses on language studies, particularly on the decoloniality of language. This topic fascinates me because language is deeply connected to identity, power, and social structures.

I also work as a teacher in the city of Barueri, but I live in Jundiaí, São Paulo, in an environmental reserve. This means that my daily life includes encounters with amazing animals like ocelots, deer, and lizards—something quite unique!

I was born and raised in the countryside of Minas Gerais, a state in Brazil. Because of that, my accent is different from the standard Brazilian Portuguese accent. In Brazil, many people consider my accent to be "caipira," which is often associated with rural areas. Unfortunately, this comes with linguistic prejudice—people tend to assume that someone with my accent is less intellectually capable. Experiencing this kind of bias firsthand led me to become deeply interested in linguistic debates in higher education.

Personal reflection-Agil Chiragli

Before working on this research, I thought AI in education was only a good thing. I believed it made learning easier and faster. However, after studying this topic, I realized that AI also has problems. For example, AI can be unfair sometimes, and it cannot replace real teachers.

One important thing I learned is that AI can help with grading and personalizing lessons, but we should not depend on it too much. If students always rely on AI, they might lose their critical thinking skills. Also, AI does not understand emotions like teachers do, so human interaction is still very important in learning.

Another thing that surprised me was the ethical issues of AI. I never thought much about privacy and fairness before, but now I understand that AI can sometimes make existing problems worse. That is why it is important to use AI carefully and make sure it is fair for everyone.

Overall, this research helped me see both the good and bad sides of AI in education. Technology is powerful, but we still need human teachers and real communication. Like everything in life, balance is key. Even too much water can be dangerous, so we should use AI wisely without forgetting the importance of human connections.
