Graves' Disease- Hypersecretion

Graves' disease is caused by a malfunction in the immune system, although the exact reason why this happens is still unknown. The body produces an antibody to one part of the cells in the thyroid gland. The immune system makes an antibody called thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) that attaches to thyroid cells. TSI acts like thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), a hormone made in the pituitary gland that tells the thyroid how much thyroid hormone to make. This causes the thyroid gland to be stimulated by both the pituitary gland hormone and antibodies which makes the thyroid overproduce thyroid hormone.
