Learning to be a nursing professional lends itself to a diverse range of situations where theoretical knowledge must be applied in urgent/ emergent circumstances. Of course there are also many situations where this sense of urgency is less pronounced, however, even in these cases the application of knowledge is important. Specifically, when learning about topics like research methods in nursing, there may be a sense that the knowledge is irrelevant or far removed from the more "important" topics related to nursing (i.e. pharmacology). I believe that including examples and activities that showcase how the application of research is done, why it matters, and how it naturally lends itself to evidence based practice is an important step to combatting some of these common ways of thinking student may have related to research methods. Incorporating activities like breaking students into groups and having them critically reflect on using tools like MMR on published articles and how they apply to practice is one example.
