Grampa Griffiths also had a difficult time finding a steady job and there was interfierence from family members they wanted to eliminate by leaving a distance between those people and themselves. The pay in Canada was 50 cents per hour. They sold their home and furniture and only brought what would fit in the trunk of a Plymouth Plaza. They also managed to sneak their blue Parakeet Tippy across the boarder with them.They had a friend from Canada who moved to Redondo Beach and they stayed with them when they first moved. The kids got enrolled into a private school called Saint James. They had to leave many friends and family behind to start up a new family in America. They also had very little and had to have a fresh start which can be a good and a bad thing. Luckily, they had a little help from friends along the way. The children moved a lot and didn't have time to get used to the new surroundings. This lead to them not really having a permanent home. Population growth was increasing heavily which lead to more houses being built. A lot of people were also moving to the suburbs. On top of this, the civil rights movement was becoming more relevant.
