There are many different theories on how imperialism in Africa began. With the end of slavery in 1833, Europe completely switched to obtaining Africa. People either think the driving force of imperialism is Economics, Technology, Competition or National Pride, or Cultural Attitudes. Though, Cultural Attitudes should be the only reason why imperialism in Africa began. First off, during the 19th and early 20th centuries, European nations started to engage more in alliances and believed they would be benefited from them. This could have been a cause of the Europeans possibly becoming friendly with the Africans and noticed their struggles. Also, our three reasons created by Matt, Andrew, and McKenna state how Africans had a lack of food and aid, medication for diseases, and how they were not advanced enough to reach their goals. These disadvantages might have been a "wake-up call" for the Europeans to help. It is proved that imperialism in Africa improved sanitation and created more hospitals for the African citizens. All in all, the Europeans created imperialism to create a better and more modernized life for the Africans.

Conclusion

In conclusion, imperialism helped the Africans (to some degree) have a more safe and modern lifestyle. Cultural attitudes should be the only reason for imperialism in Africa because it is heavily supported. As Andrew explained, malnourishment became a normal occurrence and famines spread fast. He also explained how the Europeans thought it they were on the earth to help and aid others. Matt explained the diseases that occurred in Africa and how the Europeans had the medicine needed to save these poor people. The Europeans then took matters into their own hands to cure these spreading diseases. And finally, McKenna explained how Africans were very behind on the new technology and trends, mostly because they can't afford it. Europe held many of the richest countries of that time and could help modernize Africa and it's people. Also, there are many facts supporting the Europeans helping the Africans. Some of which are Africa's deaths due to diseases going down and Africa getting more involved in technology after imperialism. All in all, cultural attitudes is a very supported theory of why imperialism all began, and my group and I strongly agree with it.
