I think the sketchiest job offer I’ve received was when I got private messages on my Instagram account offering me a job. I wasn’t sure what the job was about because I didn’t look into it further. All I knew was that those kinds of messages are often scams.

What made me doubt these messages even more was the fact that they were sent not only to me but also to other random accounts I didn’t recognize.

As someone who is always cautious about strangers messaging me online, I know better than to engage with them for my own safety. However, it saddens me that some people — especially children — can be easy targets for these possible predators, especially now that many kids have smartphones and social media accounts at a very young age.

That’s why it’s very important to teach children proper social media etiquette and to warn them not to talk to strangers online — kind of like the “stranger danger” rule, but for the digital world. I believe children should not be left unsupervised by their parents, especially when they are active on social media. It’s also worth noting that parents should avoid posting their children on social media unless the child is old enough to understand social media etiquette and has given their consent. Asking the child first shows respect for their privacy and safety.

Yes. I have seen a job offer that looked sketchy. A few months ago, someone sent me a private message in Viber. From what I recall from the message, they are looking for more employees to work at their company.

I blocked the person without hesitation.

I am known to be a private person, and I am very cautious to the private messages sent to me online, I do not trust them right away.

My parents reminded me to never accept online offers from people you are not familiar with nor have any close relations, because responding and accepting these offers might result to your account being hacked which may result of online death threats and blackmails sent to you.

As I've experienced handling both advertising and recruiting positions in former years, I like to say that I am very well aware of what genuine job advertisements look like in comparison to insidious disinformation. A few of the things I find to be red flags are:

Inconsistent contact information throughout postings. (Sign of either fraud or incompetent communications department.)

'Person to reach' has no information found anywhere on the internet. (Especially if they just say 'DM me for more information'. Who are you.)

Vague locations or superfluous goals. ('A job by the bay', 'Guaranteed 20k in two months'.)

Looking for specific attributes in positions or otherwise departments of labor that need not require them (e.g., I once saw an ad that was looking for 'Scriptwriters under 5'4. What?)

Using generative AI for advertising pictures. (Seems suspicious that they can't or deliberately aren't hiring real people to be their face.) (In case of artists, same thing.)

Using children/minors as the faces of their business. (I don't care if you're a school. That third grader does not belong on an advertisement looking for teachers. Ano yan, inspiration? It's even more sinister if the business isn't anything related to children.)

This is currently all I can think of. Of course there 𝘤𝘢𝘯 be exceptions, but that's all they are. Exceptions. Stay safe.

Yes, I have encountered and seen this sketchy job offerings. It can be mostly seen on tiktok live, where most of them will offer a job—that targets women, as they are in the search of a "female host". Connecting to this, they will also set a certain standard, which they will judge your physical appearance, as one of their requirements for this host job is to have fair and makinis na skin, beautifu, and can accompany strangers through chat and call.

And it saddens me how alot of people promotes this kind of job, even though that women will be prone to aspects of sexual harassment. Besides this, it is also alarming how alot of people, especially girls that are currently minors will apply to these jobs.

Most of them will apply to this kind of job, due to the weekly payout and how they can manage their time. But again, there are alot of risk and danger that they can be prone to.

I was looking for a job because I need to provide on my own necessities. Then someone in called me. They want to hire me as manager of that sketchy company. I was confused because I didn't apply for that company and for the position. I did some research on the company, I found out that company who reach out to turns out to be a scam call center. So, what I did is decline the offer and told some of my other friend who was looking for job to warned them.
