This is because the concept of the minimum wage does not promote the capitalist style of working hard to higher yourself but instead working the bare minimum as your earnings could not be lower. Not only that but the minimum wage actually promotes the low payment of low skilled workers as there would be no competition for workers wages which would have naturally increased worker salaries. Instead you have no option but to work at minimum wage . This all relates to the core of the issue that the government should not interfere in a persons wages as this isn't a consensual relationship. This creates a situation which doesn’t promote economic growth but promotes stagnant but equal, which increases poverty. Due to this overarching issue, I ask the other group to justify this economic burden of the minimum wage

We believe that the government should not set minimum wages. It is true that the intentions of minimum wages are truely for people. But, when we judge a policy, we look at the results, not the intentions. And, the actual results of minimum wages are deteriorating the economy. This is proven by statistic and basic economic concepts. In 2012 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $6.75 per hour, the unemployment rate of young and less-educated individuals increased from 20.2% to 21.8%. This leads to the argument of the disestablishment of the minimum wage. The minimum wage is not only ineffective but also harmful for a populus. As government sets a wage floor, an excess supply occurs and the economy moves to disequilibrium. The government interference in the market between employer and employee is creating higher economic inequality, lower jobs and lower economic growth. Also, minimum wage increases the pressure and stress of small companies. This leads to the logical conclusion that we must take out this system as it hinders us as a society, and we invite the other party to answer the following; Even though the ultimate goal of minimum wage is not done being accomplished, do you think minimum wage is an effective and a needed policy?

Thirdly, several economic concepts prove that minimum wage is not a good policy. The lorenz curve and the Gini coefficients are economic concepts that show us the income inequality of a nation. After minimum wage was set in the U.S, the Gini coefficient increased, which means the income inequality increased. Minimum wage is actually increasing inequality rather than solving it. Also, in a competitive labor market, when there is no government interference, the market is a equilibrium and is producing efficiently. However, when the government comes in and sets a minimum wage, which is a price floor, the quantity supplied increases and the quantity demanded decreases. That creates an excess supply of labor and making firms to hire less workers, thus making the market inefficient. This results in the exact opposite of the purpose of the minimum wage. And is diminishing the economy.

Finally I have one question for the opposing party. A higher gini coefficient means a higher income inequality. USA, which has a minimum wage, had a gini coefficient of 37 in 2012. Denmark, which does not has a minimum wage had a gini coefficient of 24.3. Looking at this statistics, do you still think that minimum wage is needed? Even though the ultimate goal of minimum wage is not done being accomplished?
