         <title>Through the eyes of Sundarlal Bahuguna </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Sunderlal Bahuguna was one of India’s most respected environmentalists. He dedicated his life to protecting forests, rivers, and the Himalayan environment. He became famous for leading the Chipko Movement, which inspired people across the world to protect nature through peaceful protest.</strong></p><p><strong>He was born on 9 January 1927 in the Tehri region of present-day Uttarakhand, India. From a young age, he was influenced by the ideas of non-violence and social reform inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. He worked for the welfare of villagers and later became deeply involved in environmental protection. The greatest contribution of Bahuguna was his leadership in the Chipko Movement during the 1970s.</strong></p><p><strong>What Was the Chipko Movement?</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>Villagers hugged trees to stop them from being cut down by contractors.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>The movement started in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Women played an important role in protecting forests.</strong></p></li></ul><p><strong>Bahuguna’s Role :</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>He traveled from village to village spreading awareness about forest conservation.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>He promoted non-violent protest methods.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>He explained that forests prevent soil erosion, floods, and landslides.</strong></p></li></ul><p><strong>His famous message was:</strong></p><p><strong>                        <mark>“Ecology is permanent economy.”</mark></strong></p><p><strong>This meant that protecting nature is more valuable than short-term economic profit.</strong></p><p><strong>Bahuguna believed that the Himalayan forests were essential for:</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>Maintaining clean water sources</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Preventing floods and landslides</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Protecting biodiversity</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Supporting village livelihoods</strong></p></li></ul><p><strong>He strongly opposed commercial deforestation and encouraged sustainable use of natural resources.</strong></p><p><strong>Sunderlal Bahuguna also protested against the Tehri Dam Project.          <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Rajendra Singh is a famous Indian environmentalist and water conservationist known for his remarkable efforts in restoring rivers and solving water scarcity problems in rural India. He is popularly known as the “Waterman of India” because of his dedication to water conservation and environmental protection.</strong></p><p><strong>Rajendra Singh was born in Rajasthan, India. He studied Ayurveda and later became interested in social work and environmental conservation. While working in villages of Rajasthan, he noticed severe water shortages and understood the importance of conserving water resources.</strong></p><p><br/></p><p><strong>He dedicated his life to water conservation and sustainable development. He worked closely with villagers to revive traditional water harvesting methods. His efforts mainly focused on building small water storage structures called <em>johads</em> to collect rainwater.</strong></p><p><strong>Some of his major contributions include:</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>Reviving rivers and groundwater levels in Rajasthan.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Promoting rainwater harvesting and traditional water conservation techniques.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Encouraging community participation in environmental protection.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Spreading awareness about sustainable use of water resources.</strong></p></li><li><p><strong>Helping villages become self-sufficient in water management.</strong></p></li></ul><p><strong>Through the organization Tarun Bharat Sangh, Rajendra Singh helped revive several rivers, including the Arvari River in Rajasthan. His work transformed dry and drought-affected areas into greener and more productive regions.</strong></p><p><strong>Achievements and Recognition</strong></p><p><strong>Rajendra Singh received many national and international awards for his contribution to environmental conservation. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious <mark>Stockholm Water Prize, often called the “Nobel Prize for Water.”</mark> His work inspired communities across India to conserve water and protect natural resources.</strong></p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Rajendra Singh’s efforts in water conservation have greatly benefited both people and the environment.          <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Tulsi Gowda is a well-known Indian environmentalist from Karnataka who is famous for her extraordinary contribution to nature conservation and tree plantation. She is often called the “Encyclopedia of Forests” because of her deep knowledge of plants, seeds, and forests. Despite facing poverty and lack of formal education, she dedicated her entire life to protecting the environment.</strong></p><p><strong>Tulsi Gowda devoted her life to planting and protecting trees. She worked with the Forest Department of Karnataka and helped raise thousands of saplings in nurseries. Over the years, she planted and nurtured more than 30,000 trees.</strong></p><p><strong>She encouraged people to protect forests and explained the importance of maintaining ecological balance.          <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Jadav Payeng is a famous Indian environmentalist from Assam who is widely known as the “Forest Man of India.” He became famous for his extraordinary effort in creating a large forest almost single-handedly. His dedication towards protecting nature and wildlife has made him an inspiration to people across the world.</strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Jadav Payeng was born in Assam and belonged to the Mising tribe. He spent most of his childhood close to nature and rivers. In 1979, he witnessed many snakes dying on a barren sandbar due to extreme heat and lack of trees. This incident deeply affected him and motivated him to plant trees and restore greenery in the area.</strong></p><p><br></p><p><strong>Jadav Payeng devoted his life to planting and protecting trees. He started planting bamboo saplings on the barren land of Majuli Island in Assam.
