So much is based off of parties that there is no real third option. You should like whoever agrees with your beliefs. Which one party cant give you. It is so easy to judge someone for their political involvement without looking at all of it. That said, though, political parties can also limit political discussions, creating rivalry instead of teamwork and polarization instead of respect. Parties are essential in the current election system in the US, but also create a this-party-against-this-party system instead of choosing  representatives based on their individual values and traits.
