Tiny Mulder was living in Drachten, Friesland, Netherlands the day the Germans invaded. It was May 10, 1940, and she was 19. They did not declare anything, instead just overran it.

She started to work underground. She was recruited by her boss, Pieter Wybenga, who was one of the earliest members. She worked as a courier and wore a green hat to identify herself.

The courier helped a little bit, but the airmen stunt really helped. It ensured morale and she even ended up getting a few airmen back in action, and by default hurting the Nazis. Two of her friends got hurt doing the same thing she was.

Tiny took in some of the airmen. One airman, Ed Pollock, stayed with her and her family for three months. He easily recalled the Mulders.

She ended up able to help allied airmen a few years after she started work underground. She gave them false dutch IDs. Tiny helped send them off back to London.

Ed Pollock's plane had went up in flames before he lived with the Mulders. Two of his men died. Out of the eight remaining, five were wounded.

When figuring out who was a real american, Tiny had a few rules. If they came from the plane, they were obviously an American. When no one saw them come from a plane, Tiny and her peers would question them, and if they did not answer with certainty, then they were not believed to be Americans.

When the airmen flew in, many people could remember it. They flew in on B-17's and B-24's. The Americans flew during the day and the British and Canadians at night.
