The colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence because they wanted to continue slavery. According to Nicole Hannah Jones, “By 1776, Britain had grown deeply conflicted over its role in the barbaric institution of slavery. In London (England) there were growing calls to outlaw the slave trade.” At the time the Declaration of Independence was written, Great Britain was experiencing controversies over slavery and slavery could potentially be made illegal. From today’s lesson, I learned that many of the colonists who signed the Declaration of Independence were slave owners. Therefore, I infer that they wanted independence from Britain to continue slavery.

The declaration of independence was signed in order to unite all of the 13 colonies and all social classes by giving them reasons to hate Great Britain in order to fight back. This also helped with preventing any internal conflicts. In the article by historian Howard Zinn he says, “It seemed clear to the educated, upper-class colonists that something needed to be done to persuade the lower class to join the revolutionary cause, to direct their anger against England”

My hypothesis is that the declaration of independence was written in order to unite all of the social classes in the 13 colonies in order to fight back Great Britain because the colonists knew that there would be internal conflicts between the social classes that can’t prevent any type of conflict with Great Britain. The declaration was the way to unite all of them and persuade their anger towards Great Britain to fight back “It seemed clear to the educated, upper-class colonists that something needed to be done to persuade the lower class to join the revolutionary cause, to direct their anger against England.” Jaime

The colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence only for their own benefit. They did not care about others in the way that the Declaration of Independence said. The colonies wanted to create the Declaration of Independence because they were angry at Britain increasing and overwhelming them, and because they were afraid. It was stated in Document C that “It is not a coincidence that 10 of this nation’s first 12 presidents were enslavers, and some might argue that this nation was founded not as a democracy but as a slavocracy.” What this means is that colonists were basically telling a lie and they did this out of greed. They didn't want anything other but to maintain the entire system of slavery because they benefit so much from it, which is purely harsh.

The colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence in order to unite all 13 colonies to rebel against Great Britain’s exploitations. According to “A People’s History of the United States”, it states “The solution was to find language inspiring to all classes, specific enough in its listing of grievances (complaints) to fill people with anger against the British, vague enough to avoid class conflict, and stirring enough to build patriotic feelings”. Uniting all classes, even the minority and the middle class, can make a major difference in the revolution against Great Britain.

The colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence because they want to make sure America becomes rich and powerful. The new evidence adds on to my earlier opinion from earlier. It supports the revised hypothesis because the first evidence (Document A) means that America wants to be free from the oppression of Britain. The second evidence (Document B) means that the country should be free to have the power to do whatever they want. Finally, the final evidence (Document C) is about America being free to continue slavery on their own.

They want to get people together to fight back to someone or a country. But they also wrote this to save their know goods they wanted to be free from Great Britian but don’t want all people to be free( wanted to keep slavery).
