We are the Green Teens (Victoria, Lucia, Zoe and Matthieu) and we wanted to explore density through colour. 

Our different lens was "colour".

We wanted to create different layers of colour. So we had to experiment with different liquid densities and add colour to each layer to obtain this rainbow effect.

The bottom layer we used was maple syrup which was our most dense substance. Then we used vegetable oil, baby shampoo, dish soap, vinegar and water on top of that. the different densities allowed the substances to blend into each other.

We were rather happy with the effect.

We wanted to make a tornado in the water and photograph it. So we started trying out different liquids, we tried oil, vinegar and water.

Challenge # 2: A Different Lens

We were looking at pressure and wanted to find a visual way to demonstrate water pressure and came up with this experiment to show it.

We wanted to know how many pencils could pierce a plastic bag full of water without the water flowing out before it collapsed.

The maximum holes we made before it exploded was 14.

We put iron filings onto a magnet and we put this in a perspex box which we moved around to attract the iron filings.

We wanted to show that the ice in the arctic is disappearing so we used magnetic power to try to show this as a kind of metaphor for what could happen.

If the ice disappears we will have a problem with the ozone layer. Using magnetism we wanted to show the pull and how things are connected.

We did many experiments but this image was the most effective. We dropped blue and green colour, vegetable oil and aspirin into water.

The oil separated from the water and colour allowed us to see the bubbles and their shapes forming. We put water in a glass beaker with blue and green colour and a small white cylinder object inside. We switched the machine on and it rotated the beaker very fast. This is the effect we got.

This is first experiment we did and it was the hardest because despite it looking easy it needed a lot of attention and precision!  It took us three tries until we got a photo we were happy with. 

It is made from alcohol, water, dish soap, milk, oil, food colouring and honey.

We tried to show that through mixing different substances we can show that oil is more dense than the other substances. The oil forms bubbles in an aqueous solution.

This is really important for the environment because if we were to get an oil slick in a body of water we could use something like a ferric coagulant to contain the oil and remove it with a magnet from the waterways.

It was raining and I wanted to see the droplets more closer so I used my iPad to take a photo of it. When I saw the result it was 
Very very beautiful !!!  This picture is so beautiful we can see the light bouncing off the bubbles. I wanted to show the bubble shape and enhance the light and shadow, so I added the Cold filter in Photos which created a darker background. We can now see the roundness of the bubbles which are also very crisp. Les Imagistes (Lily, Anasatsia, Henri, Alex, Emanuele)

I used the photo burst feature with my iPAD.  I used a spoon to pour droplets of milk into a baking tray. I used the tray because it is wide and this allowed me to see the circles ripple and move quite a distance.

I really like this photo because it captured the motion clearly.

I used a microscope with a built-in light. I looked for amoebas in water and found this.

I put my phone on the microscope  eye piece and took the photo with my phone.

We really like this photo because it is natural and very beautiful.

We did not enhance the photo in any way. This is natural. The amoeba looks like gold.

We wanted to take photos of seeds close up. We used phones because getting close-ups works on a phone quite well.

We like this photo because it seems that it's really microscopice and zoomed in. It's not something we see every day and we like the way the sunlight floods the flower and exposes all the detail. It is a tap with water, that has been modified in cold colors, more brightness. We took it so we can show how water can be. Usually we think of it as something normal, boring. This photo shows that with a little bit of imagination water can become unusual.

The water is a flowing thing it always takes the form of the container.
