The Danger of a Single Story

Power affects a story because whatever is said more or said by someone idolized is what most people will believe in. "History is written by the winners," shows how we only get 1 side of most stories. Stories are important because you can learn things you don't usually see or you can learn more about people and places. The danger of a single story is that it's close minded. People will choose to believe one story because they haven't heard the other billions of stories.

1. What is the main idea of the story?
The main idea of this chapter was to show the fight between Paris and Agamemnon. Then to show how Paris felt and how Aphrodite could manipulate her decisions.
2. Could this story have really happened? Why or why not?
Some parts of the story are believable and could have happened. The war and some of the events could have happened. But the Greek Gods being there could be false same with the abilities some of the characters had.
3. What do you think will happen to Helen?
I think Helen will keep being split between loving Paris or hating him but Aphrodite will always lead her back to him. But eventually they will be over.
4. Would you have done the same thing as Aphrodite?
I would do the same thing to ensure Paris that he has the women he loves and so that the war wouldn't have been for nothing.
(All questions from costa's questions)

Poetry Analysis #1

1. Make a prediction. What do you think the title means before you read the poem?
I think the poem is about someone talking about what they will do to improve and make their life or the world better.
2. Reexamine the title. What do you think it means now in the context of the poem?
The title is important to the poem because it shows what the girl will not do to show that people of war have not won.
3. Translate the poem in your own words. What is the poem about? Rephrase difficult sections word for word.
In my words the poem is about not letting someone who wants to get a hateful reaction out of you get it. Not allowing yourself to hate them shows that you don't care and it will make them stop doing it after seeing that you don't make an effort to notice it.

To miss this poem is about giving someone your all and not receiving it back. I like this poem because the title is very different from the story. While the title appears to be about a love story, the poem is about almost losing the one you love. I like how he expresses how he feels truthfully.

Take everything I love, my love; yes, take it all. What do you have then, that you didn’t have before? Not love that you could call true love, my love; all my love was already yours before you took this extra love from me. If you make love to another person instead of accepting my love I can’t blame you, love, because you’re just using my love. But still, you are to blame if you deceive yourself by taking from someone else what you won’t take from me. I forgive that robbery, dear thief, even though you’re stealing from someone so poor. And yet, everyone who loves knows that it’s more hurtful to be wounded by someone one loves than by an enemy. You – gracious and lascivious at the same time, in whom everything bad appears good – may kill me with hurtfulness, but we must not be enemies.
To me this poem is about loving someone who doesn't love you back. He is telling them to not love another person because she won't love him. He also loves her so much that he refuses to hate her. This poem is about how love is so great but horrible at the same time. That he should hate her but he cannot.
