Kabul is described as a paradise because of the beautiful mountains surrounding it. The mountains are giants, reaching up to the heavens. In the 9th line, Khizr is a servant of god, a figure in Islamic literature, and considered the one that connects to nature. Khizr had made a path from the mountains of Kabul to the heavens.

"Encircled by her arid mountains" creates a beautiful safety to Kabul that illustrates the terrain of the city. The video includes a drive-through of the winding roads of Kabul, including the people, shops, homes, and plants.

In the 5th stanza, Tabrizi includes that the nightingales sing their songs with passion. After research, the nightingales are a small bird known for their strong calls. They sing these melodies during spring mating season (late April to early July). Connecting this info to the next line of "as leaves enflamed", the idea could be connected that the leaves are of lush, vibrant colors because it is spring.

Lines 15-16 speak upon the differences between men and women in Kabul using the moon in comparison. The line, " and the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her wall," describes how the women have to hide their faces/body behind coverings like hijab, burquas, etc. The lines, " one could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, " talks about the light that can be found in Kabul even through all its war and difficulty.

The last two lines talk about how the trumpets of heaven envy Kabul's green pastures. I think the trumpets are not necessarily literal trumpet sounds, but it can be what readers interpret it to be. I interpret it to be beautiful music.

I think it is saying that when Kabul's country is seen, pretty music plays alongside it. It's like when a movie goes to a delightful thing/person, it plays like heaven, like sounds. I think that's what it is like when people see Kabul, jaws dropped to the floor.

This quote relates to "And the thousand splendid Suns that hide behind her walls," because of the woman (Marium in the book) being covered by a burka.

"Women have always had it hard in this country, Laila, but they're probably more free now, under the communists, and have more rights than they've even had before. Its a good time to be a woman in Afghanistan. And you can take advantage of that, Laila" (Hosseini 135). This quote relates to the poem lines, " One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs." Even through all the fighting with the soviet union and Afghanistan Babi and many others can find the positive things in Kabul. Even though there is so much war around Afghanistan there is still hope and favorable things like more rights for women.

"Through Laila's window, the landscape shifted from snowcapped peaks to deserts to canyons and sun-scorched outcroppings of rocks" (Hosseini 146). This quote encapsulates the different and unique landscapes of Afghanistan that is being so praised in the poem.
