The scene when Gail and Cynthia attempt to hail for a taxi is one of the first scene which portrays the blatant racism displayed in 1968 Australia. The taxi driver deliberately passes the sisters, leaving them on the side of the road. Gail, the eldest of the three sisters has become exposed to the injustices inflicted upon Aboriginal Australians. Gail instantly points out the racism displayed by the taxi driver: “It’s because we’re black, stupid.”
