I appreciate the addition of "clarity of purpose" when setting instructional outcomes. Students want to know the why -- the desired outcome before they engage in critical thinking, as they should, but it can get overlooked when planning. Making our thinking visible is key to building trust and engagement.

"Plans for learning have a flow that allows for student learning and reflection." - I love that "reflection" is valued in the new framework. Modelling reflective thoughts with sentence stems, if needed, will help build this as a regular and valued practice paramount to sustained learning.

Assessments are meant to reveal misunderstandings, so that the teacher can clear those up. If data is not collected from formative assessments, teachers may not be addressing these misunderstandings and students may be paying the price in their summative assessment scores. Is that fair? Make ups may be offered but when do students get those misunderstandings cleared up? While working with peers? In tutorial? During reflection after they failed their 3rd attempt? Are students paying the price when misunderstandings are not addressed. Yes, they are.

When multiple retakes are necessary for student success, something may have gone wrong in teacher's planning process. Considering a variety of interventions should always be part of the planning process.

In order to teach a subject, one must be knowledgeable of that subject, otherwise you may misinform their learning, or create gaps in learning that they would otherwise need to succeed in this subject.
