Scraps of cloth and paper could be turned into cardboard, broken glass could be melted down and reused, and even dead cats and dogs could be skinned to make clothes.

The ragpickers mainly are the rural-urban migrants. Lack of job opportunities and qualifications required for urban jobs forces them to take up waste picking. These people thus face a sense of identity loss and perceive themselves to be alienated in the new land.
