Showing our students how THEY can work Tikkun Olam into THEIR daily lives as students and eventually as adults.

Choose a pleasant experience that greets the students each week, such as the snacks they enjoy each Sunday, and try to estimate the time it takes for them to be prepared. Then ask the class how long it would take them to keep the area around their desks neat. They'll notice that timewise they are at an advantage and will be more receptive to straightening out their study space, before rushing out to partake of the goodies.

I chose this image because it shows that even the youngest students can learn about how simple an act of kindness can be. I like to teach my class about various kinds of kindness, from merely smiling at someone to giving tzedakah, welcoming guests, visiting the sick, etc. We talk also about how good kindness makes US feel.

I feel that the teaching of Tzedakah/Charity is a very important Jewish value, and as a teacher, I have some responsibility in helping the children become aware of adding Tzedakah to their daily lives.

It could be simply setting an example by stating "I was happy to donate today to....

We make a new artsy Tzedakah box yearly in class, and put some change in it when the occasion arises. After our Purim Queen Esther's Cafe, we together choose an amount and discuss/learn about some Jewish/ Israeli organizations to donate a set amount to from our proceeds. The class is usually very happy with their donation. We can discuss how the donation will greatly help, and donating monthly to a local food bank is important!
