What did your client think of your draft? What did she like, and what does she think could be improved on?

My client liked the constant bass (the drums) because it makes it steady. She also liked the variety of melodies in my project. However, she did not like the beginning because the rhythms do not really match up ("Ridge snap" and "Gran snap kick"), and she also did not really love the new melody because it is too sudden and contrasts too much with the front part. She also does not understand the final part of the coins, it seems a bit jarring to the overall piece. Apart from that, she said that she really liked it! 😩😩😎

Self-Evaluation/Check-List:

Am I meeting my client's requirements?

#throwback: Have I managed to achieve the goals of the module? Why or why not?

I think that I managed to achieve the goals of the module because I was able to put in my best effort and complete my tasks a day before the deadline. I also had time to consult the teacher and improve my work before submitting it.

Throughout this project, what are some challenges (at least 2) faced and how did I overcome them?

A challenge I faced was having difficulty working with Bandlab because I have never used this platform before. However, I consulted my teacher and my friends to clarify a few of my doubts so I was able to create my project smoothly in the end. Another challenge I faced was trying to meet all the requirements that my 'client' gave me. In order to solve this issue, I made sure to check with her every now and then if she was okay with what I was putting into the project and if she wanted me to improve anything.

With reference to the competencies checklist,

1. Which area(s) have I excelled in? What evidence supports my achievements/competencies?
I was able to edit my song such that it suits the theme and satisfies my client. I think that all elements in my song were relevant to the theme and fitted together nicely.

2. What area(s) have I grown in since the start of the module?
I think that compared to the start of the module, I appreciate the making of music and music itself a lot more now. I am starting to understand the amount of effort and time it takes to make just a one minute song and also how enjoyable and fun it is to do so. I now look forward to music lessons a lot more than I did in the beginning and I will definitely be trying to use platforms such as Bandlab in the future to make more of my own music.

3. What area(s) require improvement? How can I improve?

My riser could have been more consistent and cleaner. I think that it sounded a little messy but my final project was better than my draft. I can improve by zooming in on the project and focusing on all the details. I will have to ensure that all parts of the riser match at the same time for it to sound neater.

EDM exploration of loops and layerings (put today's date)

1. Feedback of my work from peer:
My peer said that I was able to meet her requirements and the project really suited the theme. She also told me to improve by inserting melodies into the project such that it does not sound too sudden and fits with the other elements.

2. Three points I noted in my composing processing today (phrasing, layering method, timbre (high/low sound), how to create cohesiveness, where to add new idea etc:
Firstly, I learnt that it is important to ensure that all elements of the song (the drums, melody etc.) all fit and sound well together or else it will just sound like a jumbled up mess. I can achieve this by choosing different audios from the same pack. Secondly, I learnt that making use of the volume feature in Bandlab is essential. Varying the volume of the different audios can make the project sound a lot cleaner and adds in texture. It is a really simple way to enhance the song.
Thirdly, it is also important to not overdo anything by trying to put too many audios into the song. This is will lead further away from the theme given to me and make the song even messier.
