Sexual reproduction uses the gametes or sex cells from two organisms.

The sperm cells are from the males and the egg cells are from the females.

The resulting organism from sexual reproduction is not genetically identical to its parents, more like it acquires traits of each of them.

In plants, sexual reproduction occurs when the pollen grains with the sperm of a flower get inside of the pistil, the female reproductive organ of plants that contains egg cells. Their interaction results in the formation of a zygote, which then evolves into a seed.

Among animals and humans, the most common strategy od sexual reproduction is mating. When male sperm cells get inside the female reproductive system and mix with egg cells, they form a zygote containing 46 chromosomes, which is the base of the organism.

The advantages of sexual reproduction are the following:
-Sexual reproduction promotes diversity, as the offspring acquires half the traits from its mother and half the traits from its father.

-Since sexual reproduction does not give off exact copies, it can reduce the likelihood of the offspring contracting a disease from one of the parents, if the genetic material from the other parents gives that organism resistance.

-Having a wider range of genes in a population is useful for the process of natural selection, with the surviving population acquiring the better genes of the gene pool.

The disadvantages of sexual reproduction are the following:

-Sexual reproduction needs an organism to find a mate, which requires more time when compared to binary fission (asexual reproduction) where organisms by themselves can make copies.

-Sexual reproduction is not always reliable, some organisms carry the risk of being infertile or suffering from a miscarriage.

-Sexual reproduction produces less organisms than asexual reproduction and with a greater risk to females, who can even die while giving birth

Asexual reproduction only counts with one organism. The offspring doesn't need to count on another organism in order to exist. Moreover, the new being produced are both genetically and physically identical to the parent organism.

A strategy among sexual reproduction is the fact that it only involves an organism to reproduce.

Specifically these strategies are called: fission, budding, and fragmentation.

- Fission: Asexual reproduction typically found in prokaryotes and a few single-celled eukaryotes. Here, there is a breakup of the genitor cell into two new daughter cells.

- Budding: method in which a new organism develops from a subdivision of an existing organism.

- Fragmentation: a piece of the parent cell breaks off and develops into a new but genetically selfsame individual.

Depending on environmental conditions there are organisms that can alternate between sexual and asexual reproduction. This is given the name of heterogamy.

advantages:
An advantage of asexual reproduction is the fact that it only involves one parent given the ability of auto sufficiency.

This one is also faster than sexual reproduction and under the right conditions it is more energy efficient.

disadvantages:
A disadvantage regarding asexual reproduction has to do with the lack of genetic diversity on a population. Because it only involves one parent, the genetic codification is identical to the one of the parent.

Another proper disadvantage will be the fact that asexual reproduction makes an asexual population to be prone to the same illness and diseases

Comparison between: mitosis and meiosis
Mitosis is responsible for producing 2 identical new daughter cells. While Meiosis is responsible for creating genetically unique cells.

The cells produced during meiosis have half of the amount of chromosomes cells produced during mitosis have.

In mitosis, the interphase is the phase that takes longer, while in meiosis, prophase takes 90% of the process.

Mitosis is a process with a single round of division while meiosis has 2 rounds of division.

Mitosis produces 2 daughter cells while meiosis produces 4 daughter cells.

The chromosomes in meiosis are homologous, which means a pair of chromosomes where one is from the mother and one is from the father. The chromosomes in mitosis are not homologous, since they are the genetic material from only one person.
