We are continuing to have problems with getting the I-NET system functional in our facility.

SPCC will start TABE testing in the Spring. We have 15 student laptops at 1 facility and 15 at another one. 3 classes at each.

NCDAC and ACI have equipped the facility with (I believe 70 plus) student laptop computers to support the enhanced digital coursework (online and hybrid application).

I understand that iNet whitelist courses are checked at the time of submission to ensure no linkouts to social media, unapproved sites etc. I just wondered if they are also checked at later intervals to be sure the websites don't add linkouts that wouldn't be approved?

We had a student who learned to use Excel in the digital Literacy class. He was very excited and told the instructor: "This is what my son uses at work! Maybe I can work with him someday!"

Lenoir Community College - We have 3 prisons each with a different set up. At ECI we are up and running the the iNet, the instructor is using it and all seems to be going well. We have a couple of classrooms and a great culinary space, when we can get an instructor.

At MCI the laptips are not working yet. We have 5 classrooms available for use.

At GCI the last I heard the laptops were not up yet. We only have one classroom available.

Student access issues. Some laptops have stopped working or have frozen. Not all classrooms have Inet, and with the prison walls, connectivity does not reach.

1) We have gained access (login) to the EDOVO platform, I can help students find relevant resources for review, practice, etc. to be used outside the classroom.

2) Students love learning about the computer through Northstar Digital Literacy and typing essays.

Students say access to digital resources is a great help!

3) If I have a question, now I can have immediate assistance (only instructor).

1) Getting info about the I-NET is frustrating. Accessibility is limited (logins and sites). We are being told that the sites that we cannot reach are for pay sites. (I do not believe this to be true.) Difficulty getting student logins.

2) Inability to save or print essays for critique or sharing is unavailable.

3)Not having mice, as a tool, makes some operations more difficult.

4) Teaching in the prisons presents different approaches. When supervisors are not educators (college and prison), they sometimes do not understand why or how connectivity and appropriate equipment affect teaching or learning. I would like more info on what's going on. What apps are being used, how are other sites incorporating technology, and feedback when requests or questions are entertained.

I am a former public school technology facilitator. I get very ;frustrated when I ask a question and it is answered by people that know nothing about technology. I am expected to just move on and not pursue answers.

Covid proved that instructors nor students were prepared for the dependence on technology. Today many schools are severely limiting the use of computers. They are still a great TOOL if used appropriately. And getting something as simple as a mouse should not be considered a game breaker. All of these things are tools, not instructional items.

Keep pushing for better use of technology .- we must be prepared for the future!

Please let me know when this groups meet my college does not. I feel I am in the dark.
