Tips for China Experience

RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH, the more that you know about an area the more fun you will have (don't rely on other members to tell you what to do)
Never be last to wake up, get off a train, get to sleep etc. Aim to be 15-30 minutes early for EVERYTHING
Bring along some things for the host family that you will be staying with (Vegemite, wool, honey, Weet-Bix)
There will be 1 x China Sim phone in the group (held by Cleve) and personal phones held by Kai and Cleve, Dion to be confirmed
We will have access to 2 x handheld cameras, 1 x high quality camera 1 x computer
Bring a diary to record your time in China, along with 1-2 workbooks to write our findings in
Take plenty of photos- you'll regret it later if you don't
Be polite and understanding of the social hierarchy in China, Don't disrespect people with a higher status than you.
Bring along a book or two for any downtime you may have
if you wish to connect to things such as Facebook or Instagram, make sure to set up a VPN before travelling to China
It would be a good idea to understand basic Chinese phrases before travelling, and to bring a book of simple sayings and translations
Try the exotic foods and go into the exotic locations - you may never get this chance again!
Pack light when you travel over - <8kg, to allow a large amount of purchases in China without exceeding the 20kg max luggage rule.
Look after your passport, as you will be carrying it around with you 24/7 and it would be tragic if you couldn't come back to Australia
Check your medical information on MyTGS
Bring no more than $200, you don't need it!
Use Load and Go (buy a card from post office) to have a working credit card
Two apps that work without a VPN are Viber and WeChat to talk to people in Australia
Always be respectful towards teachers and Chinese citizens.
PREPARE! We must plan where we will go in China and also plan what to do there. Don't leave it to the last minute!
