EVIDENCE 1: POSITION PAPER

I have chosen this assessment to support Graduating Teachers Standard 2a which is have knowledge of a range of relevant theories and research about pedagogy, human development and learning. In this assessment we were to choose a topic and discuss on this. I had chosen “A baby’s development is like the opening of a flower bud. It gradually unfolds. If we open its petals unnaturally we interfere with the growing process and the flower becomes distorted” . In this paper I discussed on the importance of the natural development of infants, respecting infants during this natural development and the quality of movements as better than the time of accomplishment. I had used a range of literature to support this paper and referred to the works and philosophy of Magda Gerber. I chose this assessment as evidence because I have demonstrated knowledge of natural developments and learning of infants which was supported by relevant literature and research.

EVIDENCE 2: LANGUAGE THEORY ESSAY

I also have linked this assessment to Graduating Teachers Standard 2a. In this assessment we were to discuss three language acquisition theories along with examples of how children in our centre develop language. I had drawn knowledge from Skinner, Vygotsky and Piaget to inform my discussion on how children acquire and develop language. For example I talked about Skinner’s theory of operant conditioning, which is behaviour learnt through imitation, response and reinforcement. Skinner is a behaviorist however he recognizes that children also learn language through operant conditioning, as children imitate sounds or pronounce words they hear and learn to develop their language by response and reinforcement of the language. I have used an example from my centre is when a child says “nana” I would repeat back the correct term “banana” to reinforce the proper pronunciation of the word and developing their language. I chose this assessment as evidence because it demonstrates my knowledge of relevant theories on children’s development and learning language. I am able to use these theories to inform my practice on the developmental level of children and plan to teach them accordingly.

EVIDENCE 3: CHILD DEVELOPMENT CASE STUDY

I have chosen this assessment as evidence to support Graduating Teacher Standard 2b, which is teachers have knowledge of a range of relevant theories, principles and purposes of assessment and evaluation. In this assessment we were to choose a child in our centre to do a case study on their development in domains such as physical, social and emotional as well as provide strategies and techniques to support development in these domains. I had observed a child in the centre and linked his development to theorists such as Erikson, Bandura, Bronfrennbrenner, Piaget and Howard Gardener. I had used these observations to inform the strategies and techniques I chose to support this child’s development. I chose this assessment because it demonstrates my knowledge of a range of relevant theories which I used to link with the child’s development. Also because It also shows my ability to assess and evaluate this child’s development and knowing how he learns to inform the strategies and techniques I plan to use to support this child’s development. In yellow is the theories and how they link with this child’s development and in green is the strategies and techniques I have proposed.
