         <description><![CDATA[<p>There were many major clashes (battles) that happened in Virginia between 1861-1865, such as First Bull Run, Hampton Roads, Chancellorsville and many more.  Majority of which were won by the Confederacy and few were won by the Union and even fewer were Draws.</p>]]></description>

First off, there were the most major battles in Virginia compared to any other state during the Civil War. Also Virginia had involvement because they gave lot's of natural resources such as coal and iron which helped factories manufacture things. Also Virginia had around 150,000 troops that came from the state. </p>]]></description>

This caused major destruction and affected the agriculture in Virginia, causing a dip in the economy. Also there were 14,794 deaths in the Virginia Army. Also Virginia had to surrender its army and capital and its borders got changed.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><ul><li><p>Where did it take place: Fairfax County and Prince William County Virginia</p></li><li><p>What did each side try to gain from the battle: The Union was pressured into ending the war in under 90 days, so they believed that attacking the Confederate capital, Richmond Virginia, would make the war end quickly. The Confederacy was trying to prove in this battle that they could keep up with the stronger, well trained, Union army.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Who won this battle: The Confederates won this battle.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Was this battle important over the course of the Civil War: Yes, the First Bull Run was an important battle as it was the first Full-Scale battle of the civil war and it made everyone realize that this war was going to be long and bloody.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><ul><li><p>Henry A. Wise was the 33rd governor of Virginia. He was a democrat and was pro slavery, like many politicians from Virginia.</p></li><li><p>Henry A. Wise was for the war and thought it was necessary, as once he stood before the Virginia Legislature and demanded for secession from the United States and join the Confederate States, even if it meant war. Also he was a part of many meetings and etc. with the Virginia government, supporting the idea of secession and going to war, if necessary.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>While still being a governor, he was a part of many meetings and etc. with the Virginia government giving his thoughts and ideas towards the war. After his time as governor, Henry A. Wise became a General in the Confederate Army and had lot’s of determination.&nbsp;</p></li></ul>]]></description>

Lee was the lead commander of the Confederate Army during the Civil War. </p></li><li><p>He started as a colonel during the Mexican-American war and a distinguished military engineer. He even got offered the position to be lead commander of the Union army but instead joined the Confederacy. </p></li><li><p>Robert E. Lee was known for his time as commander of the Confederate Army and the Northern Virginia Army. He was also remembered for his high military skills and played key roles in many major battles during the Civil War.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

The wheat grown in Virginia was used as a cash crop, to gain money, but also to feed civilians and soldiers. Iron and Coal were used to manufacture weapons and tools and other industrial items. </p></li><li><p>Around 150,000 soldiers came from Virginia during the civil war and around 14,794 of which died.</p></li><li><p>Many of the most major Battles took place in Virginia, such as First Bull Run and Fredericksburg, which were battles that impacted the course of the Civil War.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Where did it Take Place: Hampton Roads, VA</p><p>What did each side try to gain from the battle: President Lincoln had put a blockade off the Southern Coast, preventing Confederate trade, so the Confederate Army tried to gain it's port back because it was crucial for imports and exports and the Union tried to defend the blockade and cut off an important port from the Confederacy, which would affect their economy. </p><p>Who won this battle? Both Union and Confederacy claimed they won however, there wasn't a definitive answer to who won so many consider it a Draw. </p><p>Was this battle important over the course of the Civil War: Yes this battle was important over the course of the war because it was the first clash of ironclad warships and it really laid out the potential of naval warfare over the course of the war.  </p><p><br></p>]]></description>
