It is very imaginative and creative and really well constructed - everything links in very well. It is set in an "alternate earth" which has steampunk elements; this is a very well created world by Philip Pullman. I just love this book and never tire of reading it. It must be one of my top 3 or 4 books.

I would definitely recommend this book because the main character, Stella Batts, is adventurous and  sometimes distracted with many things and has adventures in every book.
This is book 5, so you have to start with book 1 otherwise you won't understand the story. There are 10 books in this series.

Stella has always wanted a pet dog and has a friend with the dog she's always wanted. One day her friend goes on vacation and needs someone to mind their dog for three days. Stella was chosen and everything goes well until she loses the dog. Stella decides to not tell her friend who owns her dog so she can enjoy her holiday without worrying about her missing dog. I think that is a right decision.

I wonder why her friend didn't get mad at Stella when Stella told her she lost her dog. I think it's because Stella found her dog anyway and they still have her. Would her friend trust Stella to mind her dog again?
Because they're best friends I think She will let Stella mind her dog although Stella might not be ready yet.
