His wife must have so much sadness reading this, but also felt like she might have been a little bit comforted that this was all for her for. I feel like he knew what was going to happen, so he wrote out his last words to her. The letter overall makes me feel sad because it was Sullivans last time telling his wife something. I also can't imagine how Sarah must have felt when she read the letter. Then a week later receives the news her husband is dead. When Sullivan says "Sarah do not mourn me dead, think I am gone and wait for me, for we shall meet again", truly shows that he didn't want his wife to feel pain when he was gone.
