The clash of the amature armies at 1st Bull Run was terrible. Please write down your thoughts and/or impressions of his letter to his wife Sarah in 5 sentences. Use appropriate capitalization and punctuation.

His letter makes me sad, because he's so full of love for his wife and then he's killed the next week. 'If I should come back as a ghost, then I shall surely come back to your side.' It's full of heartache and pain and he knows he may not come back. His last written words(?) were to his wife, and then he died. It's so real and sad.

The reality this letter brings to the thoughts of those who serve is incredible. Waiting before fights that have big risks. The last words of this man are knowing that he's going to die, knowing that when he does he will be with the love of his life. Describing every detail of his love for his wife. With a grounding understanding of his future. It's a very moving and admirable letter. I'm sure he was a wonderful husband and father.

His letter is so emotion he had os much love for his wife and the next week he passes away. His last written words were even to his wife its so sad that this is a real story. I cant imagine how his wife felt knowing that was the last letter she would ever recivve from him. I Hope she was okay after the letter and people helped her recover from her loss.

I felt like this letter is really deep and heartful, It makes me upset just watching this. My favorite part was when he worte "I must watch you from the spirit land and hover near you, while you buffet the storms with your precious little freight, and wait with sad patience till we meet to part no more." His wife must have so much sadness reading this, but also felt like she might have been a little bit comforted that this was all for her for. When he stated, "As for my little boys, they will grow as I have done, and never know a father's love and care. Little Willie is too young to remember me long, and my blue-eyed Edgar will keep my frolics with him among the dimmest memories of his childhood. Sarah, I have unlimited confidence in your maternal care, and your development of their characters. Tell my two mothers, I call God's blessing upon them. O Sarah, I wait for you there! Come to me, and lead thither my children," I felt really connected to that. I love the amout of detail he added about his kids.

That's kinda sad just thinking about it. Like leaving someone whom you love, having no clue where you are going just hoping that one day you can return to your loved ones. Plus it's kinda sad for them because every day they're praying that they can see you again and all they can do is imagine the joy on their face that they will have. Plus I don't know if he had kids or not but I feel extremely bad for them.

I can't imagine what Sullivan must've been feeling at the time. I feel like he knew what was going to happen, so he wrote out his last words to her. The letter overall makes me feel sad because it was Sullivans last time telling his wife something. I also can't imagine how Sarah must have felt when she read the letter. Then a week later receives the news her husband is dead. When Sullivan says "Sarah do not mourn me dead, think I am gone and wait for me, for we shall meet again", truly shows that he didn't want his wife to feel pain when he was gone. Even if he didn't know what was going to happen, he still wanted Sarah to feel comforted/reinforced.

The thought of death coming to past you one day is such a harsh and melancholy thought. I can't even begin to imagine the exact feelings Sullivan was feeling at that moment. To gather all of those thoughts into just one last letter, is absolutely astonishing. The love and sincerity shown in this letter represents his true and honest affection for his wife, Sarah. Overall, the letter is an extreme tearjerker and makes you sit and think over everything.

I could not imagine the pain of knowing that you would cause the one you love most pain. He went though the troubles to comfort his wife in case the war killed him. Yet through this all, he kept fighting for the U.S. He truly is a respectable person and soldier.

I can't imagine what it was like for him before that battle that claimed his life. when something bad is going to happen to me I can sense it and he could too. I can't even begin to imagine what his wife's thoughts were back then mail took so long that he could have been dead by the time she got his letter. it may sound bad but I'm kind of happy his son was young. he won't remember him later which will hurt less.

This letter makes me emotional. They way he conveys his love for Sarah, Its extremely breathtaking. Sullivan Ballou was so in love with Sarah he wrote something no one has ever said. ¨Sarah my love for you is deathless.¨ that is love in its finest form. Sullivan new he would die and never speak to her again. And the way he was so devoted to his country he would die proud for it. "the name of honor, that I love more than I fear death," . Sullivan´s love is truly inspirational. I wish that I could get the chance to love someone as much as that. This letter truly makes me cry.

This letter is depressing but beautiful. Sullivan really put everything he had in this letter and it shows. He didn't want to die without saying goodbye to his wife. The love he has for Sarah is beautiful and is shown in the words he wrote. The fact that he didn't even want to go to war but still died for his country is astounding. I can't imagine the pain they both went through Sullivan having to right the letter and Sarah having to read it and learning he passed not to long after. He is a very loving husband and father but also a very honorable soldier.

Sullivan Ballou's letter seems like it truly comes from the heart. He took time to reassure his wife even if he were to not make it. He also made it clear that he was going to serve his country to help make the government better. "When my last breath escapes me on the battlefield, it will whisper your name", wow. Have someones name of who you love being your last breath truly means love. Sullivan does not want his wife to mourn and suffer his death because he know that they will eventually be back together again, someway, and somehow.
