4.Explicit teaching when done appropriately is inquiry as well

Wants - I'm wondering how you support people who are very committed to a specific program (ie/ Jan Richardson). I appreciate these as frameworks and absolutely see the value in them. I also see how they could fit into a workshop based balanced literacy program, but what about people who don't see that, rather they see it as an either/or - do you have a quick elevator pitch?

I like From Striving to Thriving. I had never heard that before and I think it really fits who I am. I am constantly changing to all students to thrive. Every year/month can look very different in my classroom.

Wants - I feel I can adapt writing to all levels but pulling out the reading is a little bit trickier. Not all kids are ready for the same reading skills. How is that being balanced? I am thinking of skill based needs. I do tie to the unit but I have such a variety of things happening. I really liked the idea of thinking about the units of study through the lens of the current unit of inquiry. One suggestion was that  bends 1 and 2 of any given unit may be kind of stand alone teaching to get kids to  understand the concepts, skills etc. Then in bend 3 - tie the work back to the unit of inquiry.
