The first Implicit Association Test I took suggested a moderate automatic preference for young people over old. I did not find this surprising as I have worked with young people all my life. I love to coach, have taught swimming lessons for many years and now am teaching. Although I do enjoy “old” people. I could sit and listen to their stories all day long. On my second test, my responses suggested a strong automatic association between males with careers and females with family. I am not surprised at this one but am frustrated. I feel as though society still stresses this concept even though females are gaining ground in the career field. This has been demonstrated all my life as it was always my mother who would stay home when my siblings or I were ill. The society also demonstrates this concept as mothers get more time off during maternity leave than their male counterparts. We as a society as making great strides on this concept but still have a way to go.
