This is because as the hominids descended from the trees and onto the ground, there was a greater emphasis on walking on two legs instead of swinging from branch to branch.

Something from Lucy's time that helped for walking and tree climbing were feet with a thumb on the side, like our hands. Since Lucy's time, thumbs on our feet have changed; we now have 5 toes on the top of each of our feet. Everyone has different toes, some may have extra toes or maybe even less . Although toes have changed a lot since Lucy's time, they still have a similar purpose. I believe that our toes help us balance, and help us to walk as well. I also think toes have become more flexible, which helps for walking, and different types of sports.

Lucy's ankles lead to the conclusion that her feet were relatively flatter. This shared the same humanlike orientation as humans today, but they varied. If Lucy ever needed to climb a tree, it would be different to how humans would have climbed trees. Features of Lucy's feet and ankles show how human's feet and ankles displayed a long history of evolution little by little.

Studies have shown that Lucy had really strong arm bones that allow her to haul herself up branches, similar to how we were talking about her climbing up trees in our class discussion. During Lucy’s time, her limbs weren’t as strong, but her arms were surprisingly strong. This suggests she climbed and habited in trees and other high places. Now our arms aren’t as strong as hers as we don’t normally climb up trees or use our arms to an excessive amount. Her bones soon became bigger than ours due to all the activity she did with hers. They most likely were very flexible too.

Thumb toes were very useful during lucy's time due to the fact that Lucy spent a lot of time in trees and climbing them. Though since we have evolved since Lucy's time no one has thumb toes anymore. No one has them because we no longer need to climb trees like Lucy we walk in todays society to get to different places so we no longer need them.

This is an advancement during Lucy's time as a key for survival, making it easier to climb trees. Now, we don't have such long toes, nor do we have a thumb-toe, but apes do. Our feet are set at about 180 degrees and all toes are connected straight to the foot, making it easier to balance. I think this became adjusted over time because of walking and balancing.
