The need for proper waste management

A proper waste management system plays a crucial role in the overall development of any village. The accumulation of unattended and uncollected waste from rural areas increases the amount of methane gas in the atmosphere which inturn accelerate greenhouse effect.

What can we do?

As a majority of the uncollected waste would fall in the category of bio waste, My village would be equipped with a proper bio waste management system which ensure proper collection and utilization of bio waste. Effective methods would also be employed in differentiating recyclable and non recyclable wastes
Educational drives can be conducted to create awareness among villagers on the need of a proper waste management system.
ASHWIN V
AM.EN.U4AIE19018

Current Scenario
Schools in villages are lacking basic amenities and quality education which should be a bare minimum everywhere.
The schools in these rural villages are highly vulnerable to natural factors such as rain water pouring through roofs, mould growing in the walls, and termites due to their lack of infrastructure. Another issues is that there isn't enough furniture, seats, or desks to accommodate each student.
Poverty makes the basic education for the children unaffordable due to which parents prefer their children to work in farm or household work rather than study.
Lack of trained professional teachers is a pressing issue. Giving children proper education from early on - making them aware of the real world issues, gender equality and other issues could go a long towards helping solve the issues of the society. From my visits to villages back home, I am always surprised to find that as soon as primary education is done, the children- especially the girls drop out of school. The mentality of gender equality is also missing from the boys and girls as they are not made aware of it in schools.
What can be done?
Donation drives for books and the basic materials can be held, volunteer programs can be held to teach the children of real world issues. Conducting interactive and fun - filled sessions can surely help the children to get interest to continue their education. Mental health is also equally important, and therapy sessions could be held for the children who are facing harsh, possible violent environment back home.

SASHMITA RAGHAV
AM.EN.U4AIE19059

Why we need?
Farmers are the backbone of India. But in reality farmers are not getting the right price and every year so many farmers are committing suicide or leaving their villages to find new jobs. Another major problem is the usage of chemical fertilisers. Using excess amount these fertilisers can damage the crop and it can also cause health problem for the consumer.

What should we do?
We can create awareness in farmers about recent advances in farming, we can promote organic farming which is very healthy, we should educate them about various crops and what kind of crops we should focus on during that particular season, we should also educate them about various government schemes and how to apply for farm loans and I feel we should also introduce online shopping to the farmers so that farmers can buy essential goods for cheap and they can also sell their crops for a good price. Because of this I feel both farmer and consumer can be benefited.

P.NISHITH REDDY
AM.EN.U4ECE19143

The healthcare facilities in the villages is actually a challenging one because of the non-accessibility to public health care and low quality of health care services. The key challenges in the healthcare sector are low quality of care, poor accountability, lack of awareness, and limited access to facilities. They would mostly be from a poor background and so they cannot afford the expenses related to healthcare and also there are structural barriers. Private health care is expensive, often unregulated and variable in quality. Besides being unreliable for the illiterate, it is also unaffordable by low income rural folks. There are primary health cares in the villages but the services provided by them is not up to the mark and also there would be mostly one doctor in those centres.

P E ARCHANA
AM.EN.U4EAC19038

Water-Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting System

Since there is an ever increasing demand for water, my village has resorted to Rooftop rainwater harvesting system. The initial installation costs are much cheaper than what it'd cost to dig a borewell or laying down pipes that are kilometers long. This method can be implemented on an individual level, that is, every home can have one of their own. The design is simple, The rain water that runs down the roof can be channeled by using gutters or pipes, which then gets transferred to a near by situated storage tank. This water can then be purified for personal uses. The major perk of having this system is that unlike in other villages, it gives the villagers self sufficiency to their water supply, especially during summer when there is water scarcity.

KARTHIK HARIKUMAR
AM.EN.U4MEE19020
