I really enjoyed print making , I have also done Lino cut . I enjoyed doing this because it made me feel calm while creating it . I would like to improve my drawing and research , as I want to be able to create portraits . I am going to do more research on the artist to widen my skills . I liked doing chalk and didn’t want to stop doing it , this made me calm by creating this . I liked the way the chalk blends in . I came on this course to draw , I wanted to do portraits that look realistic and symmetrical faces , so for this reason my final major project will be based on portraits . I want to study for the following weeks , the subject of emotion through the use of the personal portraits , using traditional techniques such as drawing and painting . For many years I have wanted to be able to draw faces because I saw this as the only way to be an artist however , I have learnt how to mark make , paint and print which is the basis of all art . However I desire to draw faces and I will use my own selfies and faces for reference. I hope to learn I can still be an artist even if I do not meet my own expectations of creating a perfect portrait . For my final evaluation I will write a statement to see if I have completed my work to the standard I wanted. People painted portraits to record faces as they had no cameras , a portrait is usually just an image of a face . Portraits have been found as cave paintings in ancient Egypt. The way portraits have been painted over time has changed because the things around them have changed. Portraits can be sculpture, painting and photography and can be of a person or the artist themselves. Traditionally a person would just sit for the artist , now they can draw through photographs and videos so there isn’t a need to physically sit for the artist. In ancient times they would create portraits of important people in the form of sculptures . Portraits have always been created to show peoples best side , if they didn’t do this nobody wanted their work. 

In more recent times people stopped wanting their portraits painted so artists started to paint their family and close friends however they wanted to. Eventually portraits changed and artists stopped painting realistically and created more 2D and flat imagery. When photography became very popular and the most important medium of traditional portraiture, this started of as an expensive luxury product that was made affordable for almost everyone. 

Self portraits used to be just faces but now can be anything that’s representing you. You are starting with your personal protrate now and you will use shading techniques to select and comptently use this to create art for presentation. 
Paige we have many verbal feedback discussions and we will continue to use these so this does not embarrass you. 
However, please bear in mind you must experiment at home and photograph all this work so we can evidence it here.

Picasso is credited along with George’s Braque , with the creation of cubism. He was an innovative artist who experimented and innovated during his 42 plus years on this earth. Picasso’s work matured from the naturalism of his childhood through cubism , surrealism and beyond shaping the direction of modern and contemporary art through the decades. Pablo Picasso lived through two world wars , sired four children appeared in films and poetry. He died in 1973. I copied the image on to a piece of Lino and cut it out using a Lino cutter. Then I printed it in blue , yellow , black and red. Some of them worked but the rest didn’t print properly or the colours had mixed which made the yellow which is a primary colour turn green which is a secondary colour. The dots in the Lino prints are contamination from thinners. I liked the blue one because the ink had good consistency on the paper . 
I tried to make my lines as good as my research but I am not that good yet. Linoleum was invented by Frederick Walton (UK) in the mid-1800’s, first patenting the material in 1860. At that time, its main use was that of a floor material, and later in the 1800’s as actual wallpaper. 
 
I have found quite a lot of wallpaper that is block printed but I can not find an original I like this one though by ‘Edward Bawden
This is a test piece and didn’t make the full wallpaper. I like that the pattern can be repeated. I  like the colours they seem calm and they stand out against each other.

I thought this was my best attempt so far I have found that I really like trying to draw form. However the best thing that I really want to do is draw faces and this is what I came on the course to learn. It has been a long process and I still don’t feel happy that I have learnt enough for drawing faces. For this project I decided all I wanted to do was try and learn portraiture. My researched artist is Picasso and I liked his initial charcoal work his work really showed shadow , tone and the highlight. I looked at his later work which was his blue and rose period but I like the blue period best because it’s mostly one tone of colour. 

I had to do lots of experimentation drawing heads with scale and grids and experimented the shape and line . I eventually lost my temper and walked out , I came back to it and decided to try and loosen up my marks and be expressive with the charcoal. I had lots of arguments with my teacher because I wanted to create realism but I have now learnt this is an on going process. I need to improve my patience but this is very difficult especially when I have a set goal in my head. I am coming back next year to do another level of study.

I am happy with my portrait but I feel I could have done more if I had the time this image took a long time to do and it was difficult, but I really enjoyed it and I feel more confident than I did before I started it. 

In my next project I now know what I really need to do to improve my grades. 
Motivation when I am fed up
Calmness when I get cross with frustration
Time keeping arriving on time.
