Nora had her share of regrets throughout the 19 years of her miserable existence like losing her job backing out of engagement, and overdosing on antidepressants. With the guidance of Mrs. Elm, the initially reluctant Nora seeks to understand the meaning of life and surfs through an infinite amount of possibility for her life and shows the nobility of human life lies in its ups and downs. I think this relates to change your brain change your life because even though Nora is bright and gifted she struggles with immense pressures. After going through infinite amounts of parallel lives she decides that her life matters. I think that her change of mindset changed her life.

In her root life, Nora struggles with relationships. She doesn't have anyone who she's actually close with, just surface level interactions. With the little connections she has, she becomes upset with her root life and doesn't feel as if anything is fulfilling her. After she travels to each life, she realizes that a constant between all the lives is that she has people. She has people she has deeper connections with and enjoys. For example, in one of her "longer" lives, she is married to Ash and has a daughter. She is the happiest in this life because she realizes she has those close relationships that she didn't have in her root life. This relates to the Power Of Relationships (Mills) because he talked about how important it is to have those people that you have more than a surface-level connection to. Without those, Nora was depressed, which led her to the library in the first place. She finally feels satisfied after she gets put in a life with those deep connections.

Nora Seed doesn't really have any good strong relationships. She has a few surface relationships in her main life but she doesn't have those deep reliable relationships. She's so sad all the time and has no one to talk to about her problems and it made her want to die. These relationships are so important. Now obviously we don't need to put our worth in these relationships and we don't need them to survive but it makes it a heck of a lot easier. If Nora had those strong foundational relationships she probably would've been living a much happier life and a life she wanted to keep living.

Part of the triangle is Positivity. Nora is missing that because, in the book, she has lots of regrets and does not really talk about the good things going on in her life. She doesn't talk to Izzy anymore and also does not get along with her brother. Nora definitely needs someone in her life to vent to because it is hard for her to bottle up all of those emotions. It is important for Nora to talk to a friend because bottling up everything could make someone very depressed, and it's just better for us to get everything out.

Izzy no longer speaks to her, and she has no living family other than her brother. One of Nora's final straws is when her neighbor declares he no longer needs her to get his medicine for him. Nora has no relationship with anyone around her and feels disconnected and useless. These feelings are part of what lead Nora to a bad place and they can lead anyone to a bad place. Nora Seed shows just how important those relationships are because if she had them she may not have done what she did.

Her self-esteem comes down a lot and she starts feeling full of regret and like she is not needed. This relates to the journal: Change your Brain, Change Your Life because the journal talks about how negative emotions and anxiety can have an effect on our mental health and you can see that play out with Nora's character throughout the book.

Nora’s biggest problem in her life was her lack of relationships as well as the crumpling of her current ones. Trying to live life without any relationships with peers is hard, I know this because there was a time in my life when I had no one to talk to. I have to admit that I was miserable, but I got sick of it and started talking to some new people. Nora’s solution to her lack of relationships was taking her own life, which she ended up realizing was not the solution but rather that she should improve upon her current life. It is without a doubt that Nora got an incredibly unique opportunity to find herself as a person.

Because of the pressure placed upon her as a teenager and the shyness of her childhood she never had that many relationships in the first place so when her best friend and her drifted away and her cat died she had nothing to look forward too. Relationships are extremely important in human society because we are very social creatures and without them we are empty.

Nora Seed is unable to find success in having consistent and deep relationships with those around her. Her more successful lives were not dependent upon her money nor fame, but on how strong her relationships were with those around her. For example, she experienced a life in which she was an Olympian, yet - because she could not see her brother - she was unable to find happiness in that life. This is similar to an idea preached by Shasta Nelson in her "Frientimacy" speech--close friendships are necessary. Nora had everything she could ever wish for, but it was not until she experienced a deep, non-surface-level, relationship that she truly wanted to live.

She accepts the way they are. she does not try to build on the existing ones. for example, the relationship with her brother is not strong because she hurt him. The reason is she would not stay in the band. And if Nora pushed back and explained her thoughts on the matter, she might have a better relationship with her brother because she is showing she wants to fight for the broken relationship. Nora is starting to figure this out throughout the rest of the book. In the Frientimacy ted talk, she talks about building relationships make them stronger and more reliable, which Nora needs to do with her brother.

I read the Scorpio Races as my choice book instead of Midnight Library or The Messenger.
This story follows Puck, a middle child with two brothers who is trying to keep her home from being foreclosed. As tensions rise, she finds out that her oldest brother is leaving for the mainland and the responsibility of both her younger brother and the house falls onto her shoulders. Not only is this an incredibly stressful situation for anyone, but for an orphaned set of three with Puck being only 16, it's terrifying.
The journal that connects best to the story is The Power of Relationships- the first journal from this quarter. Through her struggle, Puck is able to find a boy named Sean. Sean is also an orphan who is trying to make a name for himself and protect the things that he loves (aka his horse,) which Puck is able to relate to. Against the odds, these two become close friends.
Through both of their fears, they are able to build a strong relationship that provides them with the strength they need to keep moving forward.

He has many opportunities to bond and develop friendships and relationships full of emotional depth but I believe he subconsciously holds himself back. He prefers to take care of things himself. In the small moments of clarity, like when he opens up to Audrey, he seems to feel relief. It’s very interesting to notice his behaviors tie together at the end of the book when it is revealed that the main purpose of his challenges and adventures is essentialy just to make his life less ordinary. His world is entangled in the lives of several other people but the first time we see his life pick up pace is when he is tasked to take the life of another man.

In the Midnight Library, Nora can't make lasting relationships with people. This is partly because she can't form a relationship with herself, and she can't love herself or accept herself and the mistakes she has made throughout her life. This causes her to struggle when trying to make friends or keep her relationships with her family. We were also able to see some of her alternate lives where she was happier, and in these lives her happiness came from her relationships with the people around her and not just from her success or money. This relates to Dr. Amen and his studies of brain scans because he proved that people with stronger relationships are happier than people who are just friends with people to say they have friends, and don't try to form meaningful relationships .

Something from my own life that I have always wanted to try is to just walk up to a random person whom I've never met and just have a conversation. I feel like that would help me with my social skills, and it's also always interesting to see what other people think or know. When Ed met/confronted the characters the cards led him to, he learned and improved upon himself while building his ability to talk with others. I think the best example of him adapting is with the old woman, Milla, and him acting as Jimmy. He quickly learned things about her and completely changed his character, proving that he should be able to change his own character as Ed.

Her own brother doesn't speak to her and her best friend doesn't talk to her anymore she left her fiance Dan. She never really tried to open up to people she never tried to make friends. She needs to let people in her life and try to get involved. That was the main problem with Nora she didn't try to fix what was broken. Your friends are what you'll actions will be like and in Nora's case she had no friends she was lonely and alone all the time she blamed herself for everything. She needs to put herself more out there and fix whats broken

Shasta Nelson was mentioning how having good relationships with people is really important and Ed has that problem where he knows a lot of people; I feel like from what I read so far, he doesn't have a solid connection that could be ranked at the very top of the triangle. For example, even the relationship between him and his mother is very tense. This could very well be affecting him according to Shasta's Ted Talk.

in the book I am the messenger, many different relationships can be seen. Ed has 3 friends; Audrey, Marv, and Ritchie. these friendships show frentimacy (although Audrey is his crush). Throughout the story, ed can also be seen building relationships with other people, for example, Sophie. he starts not knowing her, and through a sort of stalker-ish relationship they kind of become friends. for example, ed shows positivity by giving Sophie a shoe box, to show that he sees her because an unhealthy relationship might start by someone not feeling seen.

In the book I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak, Ed has many lasting relationships and lots of new ones too. His main circle of friends includes Marv, Richie, and Audrey. Audrey is the woman he's in love with, but she won't love him back. They still maintain a great friendship even though she knows how Ed feels about her. They're there for each other and they're consistent too. Marv and Richie are his typical guy friends. They have fun and mess around, but they aren't vulnerable with each other (most guys aren't). He meets many people via the aces he's left and that's made his relationships even better. Sophie showed him confidence and pride. Milla showed him kindness and love. The Rose boys showed him brotherly love and protection. There were so many other ones, but those are lasting impressions that I got from the book. The people you surround yourself shape who you are. This is very true for Ed

He sometimes compares himself to his sibling. His older sister Katherine got pregnant and moved out at a young age and now has a family. His other older sister Leigh moved out a year after Katherine and left with no problems. His younger brother Tommy goes to University and is on the track to becoming a lawyer. They have all moved out of their hometown, and have a job, a family, and a good stable life. Whereas Ed can't get/keep a stable job. He is currently just a cab driver and still lives in his hometown. These negative thoughts are not going to get him anywhere in life. He needs to believe in himself and then he will live a good and stable life.

In the ted talk, it talked a lot about what makes a real friend and the only you can really do it is by having experence with them and taking the time to bulid a special bond and also be willing to listen and express yourslef to them with trust.

Nora Seed in the book "The Midnight Library" struggles with this a lot. to have good fulfilling friendships according to the frientimacy video we watched, you must have 3 things: positivity, consistency, and vulnerability. Nora Seed however doesn't allow herself to have 2 of these three core things. Both positivity and vulnerability are needed to have deep friendships yet Nora Seed doesn't show both of these things with her friends. This makes her relationships with other people in her life surface level, and this ends up leading to her being more depressed and full of regret. It's a very hard thing to be intimate with your friends, I for one struggle with this all the time. This is why I felt this stuck with me a lot more than usual.

He hangs around some questionable people who he claims to be his friends but in reality aren't cut out to be. Along with this bad environment, he thinks of himself as a failure life, not someone who'll amount to something. I think his situation can relate to Justin Bieber's brain scan and his stress. From the video on friday showed how stressful situations and lifestyles can damage the brain's general functions it shows many similarities to Ed's situation.
