She wanted to be a virgin but her parents forced her to marry to a pagan nobleman called Valerian. 
During the wedding, Cecily sat apart singing to God in her heart, and for that she was later declared the saint of musicians.
Cecily told Valerian that watching over her was an angel, who would punish him if he did not respect her virginity. When Valerian asked to see the angel, Cecily answered him that he could see the angel if he were baptized. Valerian got baptized and saw the angel beside her.
Valerian, Cecily and her brother died as martyrs.
