-Marriage: divided into 7 clans (long hair, paint, bird wild potato, deer and blue)

~Once you've found someone you wanted to marry you had to ask the family member of the women's clan if it was a good decision. You had to get a positive answer if not, then you couldn't get married. Next you would have to go to the chief so that he could preform the root ritual. he would place a root in each hand and if they both moved it meant good luck but if only one moved then it was bad luck and they couldn't get married.

-Women: Women ruled their homes, they had power in their families, government and they also fought as warriors.

The Cherokee had a "white" chief for times of peace and a "red" chief for times of war. The peace time chiefs were aided by a council. Both men and women had some sort of power in their clans. Although women could not become chiefs, they could participate with the council and offer aid in clan decisions. The council would elect the chiefs and make major decisions. Seniority was a major factor in becoming a council member. There were no stated requirements for gaining leadership in the Cherokee clan.

~ Rules and laws were determined by the council and Peace time or "white chief".

~ The Cherokee considered each other brothers and sisters.
