Was asked by Parris to observe the girls that were claiming to be tormented by spirts
Known to be one of the most influential ministers around the trials, having been the one to initially engage in the accusations against those assumed to be "witches"

A petition was signed by 32 of Proctor's neighbors fighting in his favor

Married John Proctor in 1674 in Salem
Grandfather had been tried and acquitted of witchcraft 30 years prior to her trial. 
In 1692 Proctor's servant, Mary Warren, began showing symptoms of being tormented by a invisible force that other girls in the town had also experienced.
In late March of 1692, when Proctor was 40, two girls claimed that Elizabeth had visited them at night in the form of a spirt to torment them. 
Arrested in April and later sent to a Boston jail for overcrowding in Salem.
Mary Warren claimed during trial that both Elizabeth and John Proctor's spirits "beat, pinched and chocked" her at night. 
Accused and sentenced to death for witchcraft on August 5th 1692

Corey refused to plea guilty or non guilty 
Because he refused to plea he was sentenced to be pressed to death and after three days of abstaining to plea, died, on September 19th 1692, and supposedly cursed the town as his last words

This lead to an assault on the colonial towns surrounding the area
Natives were successful in the beginning but in the end fled back to their home on Mt. Hope and Metacomet was killed by a British attack

Life as a Puritan revolved largely around farming 
Puritans saw their purpose to be fulfilling Gods plan ad obstacles in life was God's way of testing them 
They believed that theirs was the only religion and those, specifically Dissenters, were to be forced into believing the same or be punished
